is it possible that there can occure data loss when you are
tossing files between partitions that have these different
modes ??

hahaha, truth!

thing is, it shouldn't happen.. the files should transfer
ok, but you just don't know with computers... what's the
problem/what happened?

just by transfering from one hard drive with fat32 to
another with ntfs? were they both internal in the same
computer, and did you loose the data on both drives?

no no - don't you remember the history ? i have on of my
hard drives in a newly bought external case with firewire.
and i lost two times many of my files from it.

i still don't know the reason why, so i'm checking different
solutions

might be a problem relating to varying file systems. but ive
got a NTFS drive and a FAT32 drive in this puter and never
had problems.

then it's probably something with that external case.. check
the wires and connections and whatever or bring it back to
the store and ask them to have a look at it...

And if it's a Caviar/Western Digital, it may be the HD
itself. They have horrible reputation nowadays and I already
lost 2 and had big problems with other 2.

just dont use external drives - i hate these lame "one touch
backup" external drives for complete idiots. internal drives
never go wrong

what do you guys use for automatic backup?

after fucking around with genie backup manager which keeps
delecting stuff i want to backup, im now about to try norton
ghost, i hope that's not to much of a strain to run in the
background

norton ghost is cool because it packages a partition
incredibly good. i remeber having a 1.8 gig partition using
only 200 megs in ghost
