SPAMMING FOR MP3s OK BY YOU?

well it's a practice i am guilty of along with quite a few
others here..but feel guilty as heck everytime and now
leftrightronic raised his distaste in this practise..so i
just wanted to get an unofficial opinion poll going here..
What do you think of this practice? People shouldn't do it
at all?
People should do it in moderation?
People should feel free to do it?

np: some crappy trance tune with a 5th element ripp off vid
on the telly

i'm guilty of it too.

topics promoting some crappy songs...

i like hearing what kind of music people here does!

so i say OK...

i think you missed the point of the thread..but I heard yer
tune..interesting..not exactly my cup of tea (wee bit too
happy)..but i like the synth work..beats and vocal swells
aren't doing much for me...

i think it is cool to hear peoples music.

well, i think spreading music out over the net is great.. it
just seems a bit mononataneous for EVERYONE to always make a
new topic for a track they've just made. if you mention you
make music people will naturally click on your nick and surf
to your web page to download your songs. or just use a
signature type deal and put your page link there every time
you post.. that'd be a little more subtle than filling up
the board with new topics about your latest song. i'm
merely stating how i feel and i don't mean to upset anyone.
i see it as coming down to how you and your music together
are perceived..

..like, for example, you are less likely to buy a widget if
a telemarketer calls telling you how great it is and that
you should buy it immediately, compared to you wanting to
investigate and buy it when a bunch of your friends tell you
that it truly is worth getting. dunno if that makes sense,
but that's the best example i could find to explain what i
mean above, and how the music is perceived.

:F

though i dont fully agree with you..I did say before that
you have a right to your opnion..I just want to read a few
more opnions on the topic OKAY?
no hard feelings but i dont want to see if asking people to
listen to your song in say once a month or longer(which I
do?) is actually having a negative effect..and pissing
people off and hence achieving the opposite of what these
innocent posts are intended for...i.e are we making an arse
of ourselves for nothing?

really good points there.

but i usually don't advertise my music saying "this is the
best track ever! you must download it, i rule, i'm the
best!"...

nobody does..I said the most extreme..because i want to
gauge if that song is suitable for a project I am working on
with someone or not...my own influences include some pretty
harsh stuff..my background is in Industrial..and listen to a
lot of Panancea..new Speedy J and Rdj's hardcore stuff
etc..so harsh..melodically barren is fine by me but I am not
sure if it is for this particular project..

Adding a link on the message board is cool email spamming
isn't. I like getting the opportunity to hear other peoples
music. Especially when they have somewhat similar musical
taste (such as the people on this mb).

btw: fat kaimo your music is amazing. It makes me happy : )

yeah i don't think anyone is sending emails here... it's
about "spamming" on this board, promoting stuff making
posts.

and reflex i don't think that my music is crap... subjective
though...

fat kaimo::. I never said yours or specificly anyones was
"Crap" I just meant that when looking around through peoples
mp3 sites you get a LARGE % of shitty music.

I've listened to most of the stuff. I wasn't very clear
with my "makes me happy" comment. It's not the mood of the
music but rather the fact it's so good.

I think its fine so long as it isnt by someone with under 10
posts who is obviously just trying to get exposure. I think
if its kept on a reasonable level and done by people who
actually do spend time here theres nothing wrong with it.

offline TrevorGod from Toronto (Canada) on 2002-03-01 17:13 [#00107871]

yeah, i agree... someones first post shouldn't be "check out
my music"

My best friend sends me his music all the time over AIM,
which can get a bit tedious, but i understand he needs
input. It's important to get your music out there so people
can hear it. I usually dont have the time or patience to
download everything i see posted here, espcially if i don't
know what kind of music i'm going to get. I don't
discourage it though - there are some really talented people
on the board.

My friend said posting his stuff at mp3.com was a great way
to get his music distributed too.

sorry if I didn't make the subject title clearer..I was not
talking about spamming emails..I meant the board..and I
somewhat agree that your very first few posts shouldn't
really be about your own music..but I guess i can understand
the need for your music to be heard...I mean it's not like
there's a big audience out there for what we make..and hence
finding people who are interested in similar experimental
music who maybe willing to listen objectively without
screaming aargh! at the first few notes is a real bonus..and
in my case the spamming does not acquire me more hits on my
account or the chart postioning etc at mp3.com, i.e I am not
getting paid for it..it's is genuinely the need to share
what you create..as is the case what most I am sure..
and I strongly disagree with REFLEX...never once have I come
across music that wasnt worth my effort to listen to upon
checking out a link posted here..in fact I have found tons
of talent and novel ideas on mp3.com and on this board...

Iv dont it... and i dont see anything wrong with it if your
just trying to get oppinions. I figure its a good way to
find out what appeals to people. But i do agree its not cool
to promote yourself on your on the board. For that would be
spam in its purist form... but i have yet to see anyone on
the board do that.

XD

I don't care... if I don't want to read it, I won't, but if
I do and I'd like to listen to some peoples music, it's
great... keep up the spamming guys!!!
