*** IDM - Champions League ***

In these days I'm thinking to prepare the "IDM Champion's
league", a special tournament with all the best electronic
artists who will fight for the prestigious title of "Best
IDM Artist of .nu - 2002 edition".

We could have different group with 4 artists... then who win
will go to the semi-final and the to the grandfinal...

We could have artist like AFX, µ-ZIQ, FSOL, LEFTFIELD,
CHEMICAL B., UNDERWORLD, AUTECHRE, THE ORB, GLOBAL GOON,
ecc...

Is it a nice idea?
Is is a fuckin' stupid idea?
Am I becoming mad?

WooÆ’er

electronic artists, then we'll make Group A,B,C,D,E,F.
Every group has 4 artist, the best 2 will go to the next

About:" richard devine
nightmares on wax
prefuse 73
two lone swordsmen"

Maybe these aren't many famous... for a nice championship is
better to write more famous names, are you agree?

Pole, and Matmos and Kid 606 and Venetian Snares and Machine
Drum, Rechenzentrum and Jan Jelinek, Kit Clayton, Jake
Mandel...

actually if there are 6 groups and 2 pass we would have 12
afterwards which dont match... i would do 32, (8 groups of
4, and 2 pass) then next round with 16 (4 groups of
4...passing 2) so we get to 1/4 finals with the best 8.

probably it would be more fair to have less groups with more
members in them...so they all "fight" against most of them.

I dont see it very clear how fair would be a 1/4 final...
imagine .... in one 1/4 final boc against ae ... and in
other... chemical against plone... for me the losers would
be boc and chemical... but is it fair that plone gets to the
1/2 finals and boc doesnt?

you know what i mean?

you do realise 2 lone swordsmen has got Andrew Weatherall on
it..he's the godfather of most of the electronic music and
bands you mention..and a huge inspiration..Sabres of
Paradise is seminal and essential Warp and 2 lone
swordsmen's miles ahead of BoC in my opnion more of a truly
IDM band than Chems and leftfield and Prodigy and even
orbital and air..

guy blew my mind!

I think 32 artist are too much, we'll risk too many
confusion and we'll risk who have artists who few ppl know.

My idea was ispired to the old world championship (spain82
i.e.)

6 group of 4 artists
The first 2 will pass to next matches...
...so 12 artists divided in 3 - 3 - 3 - 3
so we could have a group with i.e. afx, air and luke
vibert... win only one an then we'll have the semifinal and
then the grandfinal...

What do you think...?

Leftfield, Chemical, Daft Punk, Underworld, etc... represent
another variant to the idm, but it's interesting to have
matches between different style of music. Maybe someone
prefer Chemical B. to µ-ziq here... so why not? We'll a
various championship...
there's drill'n'bass' drum'n'bass breakbeat, ambient,
techno, and many others different styles.

offline nacmat on 2002-03-01 11:30 [#00107428]

most of the ppl doesn't know that artists here... so it
would be better to make a easy championship with more known
artists...

yeah, there are soooo many different 'IDM' styles and

from each country or particular style???

It should be kept easy. If there are to many artists we will
never finish.

I thought we were just idly passing our time and not making
an actual contest. As for me, I don't give a shit, as long
as I'm able to listen to all the stuff I like. How come
noone mentioned Vladislav Delay. He is god.
