track making order

1. Find something that someone has said, it may be funny or
a mistake they've made, or just a random thing. (If you've
already got a sample, skip 2)
2. Sample them saying this.
3. Form a song around this using experiments as your main
source of inspiration.

good thread but none of you have answered my questions as
far as getting tired of hearing your own work over and over
goes. i try everything from lowering the bpm, putting on
headphones, listening to other music in intermission, etc.
doesn't work, maybe i am making shitty music.

Make some parts of the track last thing at night. Then go to
sleep, and listen to them in the morning. It gives you a
more objective view of what you've done.

ugmmm cygnus...yeah i did...look up !

"and yes i have that feeling that if i hear my songs once
more im going to freak the shit out...

a lot of artists express those feelings in interviews -
saying they've heard their songs so many times theres
nothing left in them anymore and they get arduous...so you
aint alone!"

personally i shelve music for LONG periods of time - mainly
cause i get tired of trying to get things perfect and just
lose steam

i gave up making music for 3 years because of this

every now and again i like to escape to where there is no
music, little to no noise, and just let my ears clear
themselves out and make their own noise...hence why i like
the middle of nowhere so much...its cleansing!

if your getting tired of hearing your own music something is
wrong

if your own music bores you,you cannot put in 100 per
cent,therefore its wrong

to be honest, with the tracks ive completed and actually
been pleased with, i hardly get tired of them. i couldnt
count how many times ive listened to my last 23 minute ep
all the way through.

if youre having trouble with enjoying ur music again, smoke
a fat blunt and throw on ur choons. as cliched as it is,
that deffinately helps me when im stuck with like 1 or 2
parts of a song and i dont know wherre to go from there.

I don´t get tired, and I´m constantly looping small
portions of it while working on percussion, cutting and/or
pitching. the only tired I get is when my ears get tired of
sound alltogether.. increased tinnitus intensity and some
sort of dizzyness.

I take lots of breaks while working, though.. when I´m on
xlt, there´s mostly either a song, some graphics or a task
for something university-related behind the firefox
window... xlrecreation.

o and i dont stop enjoying them in all the repeated listens.
more often i say 'holy crap, I made this?' and sit there
feeling all accomplished about myself

phil your musics very good, but sometimes shit happens other
times not-its prob good to leave it a few days then come
back

well i have nearly impossible standards for music

with the old albums ive made im amazed at the ideas i had
but never sit back and am fully satisfied...i believe the
people who think they make good music, dont...

if youre never happy or complete your music will always
evolve and get better - its when you satisfy yourself
constantly that your music begins to get dull...

I've been thinking about this recently...
I like to write all the drum patterns and melodies/basslines
or whatever in quite plain presets. Then work out the
sounds later on. If a pattern is good, it should shine
through without having to rely on a sound or pad.

offline hevquip from megagram dusk sect (United States) on 2005-12-30 12:17 [#01808915]

i'll get high and listen to some music, bang out a glitchy
drone sound or two on a drum machine and use that for the
basis of the track, quantize the shit out of alot of other
sounds so everything sounds like garbage until i quantize it
into a beat (somewhat), use other strange sounds from
keyboards to make shit that kind of sounds like melodies and
pads.

offline euphonicfilter from illadelphia (United States) on 2005-12-30 12:39 [#01808925]

nearly all of my tracks start the same way and end up
completely different...

all of my songs start with basically the same drums and then
i tweak, alter, adjust, etc to the point they're all
different in timing, sound, and pattern...

even ambient tracks...so i can keep a sense of time easier !

people who never satisfy themselves don´t make good music.
being happy with a tune isn´t the same as never evolving.
being unhappy with whatever you make, makes you put less
effort into it because "it´s crap anyway"

Being unhappy with something means you try harder to get the
sound you want.

I mostly just terminate it and start something else. I must
have a few thousand unfinished songs by now...

That's because you quit, if you carried on with it, you'd
have something you liked by now.

i get tired of listening to the same beat or melody or loop
plenty of times. sometimes i just erase everything.
sometimes i sit there in front of all my stuff and do
nothing because it seems pointless and boring.
