The ultimate chill-out playlist

offline Tropa from Helsinki (Finland) on 2002-02-28 20:54 [#00106564]

The topic says it all. I'm trying to make the perfect
playlist of timeless, beautiful, chilled out classic songs
that would flow perfectly and never stop sounding fresh and
intriguing. Here's what I've managed to do so far:

1) Nightmares on Wax - Les nuits
2) BoC - Everything you do is a balloon
3) BoC - Sixtyniner
4) Future Sound of London - Dead skin cells
5) BoC - Telephasic Workshop
6) Brian Eno - An ending (ascent)
7) BoC - Directine
8) BoC - Sunshine Recorder
9) Autechre - VLetrmx21
10) BoC - In a beautiful place out in the country
11) BoC - Open the light
12) Global Communication - 14:31
13) Aphex Twin - Rhubarb
14) BoC - Roygbiv
15) Orbital - Halcyon & on & on

I fucking love this list. Now I need you to tell me what
should be added/removed/changed in it to make it even
better?

holy BoC batman. The list is good but it's more like BoC
with a couple other songs thrown in for good measure.

This is a little playlist I've put together, trying to form
a list of extremely relaxing music, music that you can just
fall asleep to (in no particular order):
1. Cylob - w.a.c (unreleased, got it from his site)
2. Cylob - Foid
3. Bogdan Raczynski - Thinking of You Thinking of Me
4. Bogdan Raczynski - My Love I Love 07
5. Aphex Twin - (rhubarb) <- Keep this one, most beautiful
song ever made.
6. Aphex Twin - (lichen)
7. Bochum Welt - La Nuit
8. Aphex Twin - Blue Calx
9. Aphex Twin - (z twig)
10. µ-Ziq - 27

There're too many beautiful chill-out songs, it's too
difficult for me (I'm thinking to Thievery Corporation,
Terranova, Kruder&Dorfmeister, Mandalay, etc...)

guess you're right..
Thank you all for your suggestions, I'll look into the ones
I haven't heard and give another spin to the ones I have...

Hmm..Plaid..what songs should I think of? Track4 from Double
Figure would be cool (that's the only album I have by Plaid)

This isn't really your way, but I find the *perfect* chill
stuff is ANYTHING off blue states' 'nothing changes under
the sun'. I absolutely love them all, so lovely, esp trainer
shuffle and diamente

offline Tropa from Helsinki (Finland) on 2002-02-28 22:03 [#00106659]

AMG says "It seems unusual, but Nothing Changes Under the
Sun sounds like an imaginary Vangelis score for a Sergio
Leone spaghetti Western."

Now what can be wrong with that? :) I'll certainly give that
one a try..cheers!

Some parts are cheesy but I really don't care, its a bit
like air...but with slightly less synths and more of those
weird piano-type things

Seefeel - anything by them
Zero 7 - Destiny
Bent - Swollen
A Silver Mt. Zion - most of their stuff
Low - Anything by them
American Analog Set - anything by them

No aphex!? Common!

I'de atleast include Blue Calx or Quino-Phec, somthing along
those lines. You should also include BOC - Olson as the
closing track. I always do in mixes like this because it's
just a great way to end an album, and since it's so short,
it's really easy to fit in there.

does anybody remember...

The Klf- Chill-out album... the cover had sheep in a field
(1989?)

it really was ambient, ambient noises in the background...
sounds of a distant radio playing Elvis Presley
faintly(which was why the record become unavailable i
think). i could never figure out if it was just a joke, a
parody of Eno, or if they really out a lot of time into it,
or both.
