i have read every book of his released (i think) and i tell
you, they are all absolutely superb. his coverage of the
american political scene '68-'74 is fantastic... anyone else
a big HST fan?

Yep! HAve you read the proud highway and fear and loathing
in america? The collections of letters. Also what about the
William Burroughs and HST collaboration book that came out a
couple of years ago (next on my list).

I think his coolest stuff (aside from Hell's Angels & fear
and loathing in los vegas) is the letters of complaint to
various people (clothing companies, local tv station etc.)

A guy in Blackwells told me about it, I knew they were
mates, but not that they'd worked together. What's your
favourite by him?

fear and loathing on the campaign trail - about the
mcgovernVsnixon presidential race

i am reading the great shark hunt right now which has the
watergate articles he wrote, as well as some earlier ones -
about the hippy movement and the berkley students - very
insightful and intelligent

I've read a few HST books. "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"
is great, but my favorite is "The Rum Diary." I think it's
his most mature and emotional book. Not to sound like a
book critic (yuck!), but he reveals his emotion slowly
throughout the pages, rising to a beautiful conclusion.
Quite similar to Hemingways "The Sun Also Rises." It's
interesting, I'm writing like a 6th grader this morning.

Johnny Depp does a perfect job playing Thompson in the Fear
and Loathing in Las Vegas movie.

Well, since this thread started, I have purchased both books
of Letters of HST... they are fascinating documents.

FaLiLV is by all means good book. I read "Campaign Trail"
while ago, but it wasn't that good.

I must say that i haven't read all of them i have read four
of his books and they are all superb. He has such an
incredible way of telling a story, i get the feeling that if
anyone else wrote about what he does it would be nowhere
near as good.
