[spoilers] question about Aeon Flux movie

So I just got done seeing the Aeon Flux movie. I won't say
it was as bad as the jaded critics made it out to sound.
They were probably pissed that they didnt get to see an
early screening. I imagine the reason being was that MTV
didnt want old school fans to hear about the ways in which
the movie had nothing to do with the animated series,
before it was released.

That being said, I actually thought the movie was decent.
However, beyond its vaguely remeniscient moments, the film
could have replaced the characters names and changed the
title to something scifi-ish, removed a couple scenes, and
could come off as a (non-derivative) movie unto itself.

My question is, are fans supposed to take the events in this
movie to be part of the actual Aeon Flux universe? I know
MTV owns the rights to this, but does Peter Chung encourage
the fans of the series to believe the 400 year gap that
premises the movie along with Trevor and Aeon's rather
overtly heartfelt relationship? For that matter, are the
events that occur in the videogame "official" in ways that
the Matrix storyline was multimedia? Given the style, I
imagine the graphic novel is... but with the movie, I have
my suspicions. Obviously they had to keep the storyline and
characters likeable.

no. Peter Chung has explicitly stated that the film has
nothing to do with the universe of the animated series - the
story of the film has no connection to the stories in the
series and should be seen as seperate.

I would assume the same goes for anything associated with
the film, as a computergame.

I linked to a recent interview with Chung in the thread
about the dvd-release of the series - that's the interview
in which he explains about the difference between the films
and the series.

he also said he wants to continue with the animated Aeon
Flux, although not in the way of a series, perhaps as a
feature film.

I don't know anything about any of this, but they've made a
film of a cartoon that has nothing to do with the cartoon?
Conceptual!
