I have Kind of Blue, which is great. Which album should I
buy next?

Either: ESP, in a silent way, nefertiti then maybe bitches
brew. Basically all the albums with Shorter & Williams in
the band.

Cheers for the advice. Does his music after Bitches Brew
degenerate into the pell-mell of 'jazz-fusion', or is that
too simplistic a view?

Well, I would say so personally. It's kind of strange
really. In a silent way and bitches brew are kind of
transitions into the stuff on Dark Magus and Agharta,
Pangaea. I guess you would call these albums Jazz Fusion. I
can't think of an a miles album in the early seventies which
deviates from this style, others might tell you different
though. Have fun exploring his music though.

most of the records people have recommended here sound
absolutely nothing like "kind of blue." except maybe "in a
silent way." i'd say look into his other records that came
out around the late fifties and early sixties (workin',
steamin', etc, milestones and so on) before moving on to the
mid and late sixties.

who knows, maybe you'll like the later stuff even more. but
if you're looking for more "kind of blue," you won't find
anything like it in the mid late sixties...

I thought Bitches Brew was great - it is somewhat abstract,
but not to the point of being boring nor to the point of
losing character and soul.

I agree, but for me it's Dark Magus mainly. And Kind of Blue
of course. I hate Doo-Bop.

The band on ESP is brilliant but they do far more
interesting stuff without Davis. Jazz is sooooo much more
than friggin Miles Davis! I don't even know where to begin
recommending...

Try This one for instance!

Or this!

This is my all time favorite jazz record.

And this will set your soul on fire!

This is wicked, almost idm'ish.

And this is simply awesome "fusion"!

This was a revelation to hear (the latest one I've
had in jazz)

And this came in the mail yesterday and turns out
to be some kind of avant-garde fusion with some serious
grooovin' going on.

In the world of jazz you simply don't need Miles Davis...
