Wonder if something will happen soon... Warp and BOC have been in talks for a long while about putting out a box set of old tracks from these tapes and others, with new packaging and art, to be released sometime after the forthcoming record. The tapes were private comps given out to close friends a few years ago, long before the band imagined there would be this kind of interest, and long before the likes of Soulseek etc existed. The tracks are out there now, nothing can be done about that, they've been circulating for a while and fans have them, so the decision was taken to at least consider tidying them up and repackaging them with decent exclusive artwork & more rarities. BOC never wanted these tracks presented this way, mislabelled and as poor-quality MP3 files. There's no 'hype', these comps were never listed on any old discogs as they were never intended for mass release in the first place. Now the intention is still to get round to scheduling a release of these tunes and other rare comps, but unscrupulous people like 'prince murat' are obviously stealing the thunder of the proposed releases, whilst trying to make a tidy profit in the process (a starting price of $799 speaks volumes about 'prince murat's true intentions. who is trying to profit from hype here? if any money is going to be involved, surely the artist who wrote those tracks should be receiving the royalties, and not this person? there's no difference between this kind of profiteering and someone trying to sell a bootleg CDR of Beck's new album months prior to release.) Anyway, now you know, we hope the intervention hasn't caused too much negative feeling, after all the concern that Warp and BOC have is that basically it's going to spoil the impact of a nice release that hopefully will be enjoyed by the fans. -mark, hs |

i hope they never release this. If it wasnt meant to be released, it should never be released, and i'll be damned if warp get any cash for it. so there is boc material we have never heard.. is that really such a disaster? i don't even mind that they don't release that much music. What we've gotten so far is a handful of treasures with which we should be more than happy. just my opinion.. |

from what I've heard of the Old Tunes I'd say that those tracks are far more enjoyable than the post MHTRTC output. I'd definately buy a boxset if it appeared just my opinion |

I love the Old Tunes tracks, maybe they're so great because they were conceived without being tailored towards an album or single release. They're just great BOC music. And what's wrong with Warp getting money for tidying them up, packaging, advertising, releasing etc the material if it's in agreement with BOC? You fanbois really can be worrying. |

don't you think it sounds a bit odd that now BoC agree to release this, just because it happens to 'be out there'? it sounds like 'oh well fuck it, we might as well make use of the situation then' to me. If this does get officially released one day, i will of course buy it, to complete my collection, and i will probably enjoy it too, but i'll never forget that these tracks are only on cd now because some cunt 'stole' them and distributed them over the internet, which hardly even existed at the time of production. fact: boc did not intend for this music to be commercially released. this whole thing is just wrong. i admired and respected boc for having that private 'legacy' of unreleased tracks, and letting all that go to hell because one person betrayed them, is wrong no matter how you look at it. Imagine if you were one of the people who had this original tape. |

they weren't meant for mass release at the time, who knows how they would've felt about it at this same time had the tracks not been leaked. they still may have thought "you know what? these tracks are actually quite good, we'll release them anyway." if they really didn't want to release them they still could've said "fuck you, have fun with your shitty quality mp3s" and left it at that. there's just no way to know. |

Releasing them now, for god knows how many fans, seems strange to me. Does it not seem strange to you, or anyone else for that matter? you could say its not such a big deal. well it would be to me, if i was a member of boc or hexagonsun, or one of the people with an original tape. |

theyve eaten themselves. being secretive will create a buzz, a 'cult' underground following which self-promotes, listing albums on their own discography which were only 'given to friends', what exactly did they expect? cake and eat it. |

they can release whatever they want. twoism was a good idea to re-release via warp, properly packaged and all. if they do this, then they've done it - so what. i'm sure there'll be decent tracks in it. and tracks do grow out of what they were "meant for". lookin back at what you made ages ago - it might have acquired worth and sense in the time you've spent existing in other places - then if you get it released - it'll make total sense. if they do a boxset, good on them. if they dont do a boxset, good on them. let them deal with their music the way they see fit - its theirs, and they know what value any single has, or doesnt have. if they choose to package it well and get it released via the warp machine, then good on them - we'll get well-packaged release of older material, hopefully some of their remix-adulterations of tracks, (trapped/midastouch/etc)etc.... and why not? |

there's no reason for them not to release this stuff, unless you are content with poor quality mp3 / mislabeled tracks off Soulseek? They consider it worth commercial release, so let them? Just my opinion. |

It's there property, not the property of Soulseek users content with mislabelled or low bit rate mp3...to do with they please. |

if they do release this boxset: 1- i will definately buy it 2- consider it their way of saying goodbye...because that would be the artistic beauty they would see fit 3- all the posers who thought that MHTRTC was their first album will be bumping it in their cars 4- all the newer artists that like to copy other artists will start making music similar thus restarting a cycle that us oldies will hate |
