is he normally a bit full of himself?

and what do you think of resilience?

He makes fun of pop with VST instruments and makes his CD's
un rippable. He's fun for a few seconds but is thatbit?

Punchy, esoteric, swarmy and taciturn. He takes music by the
foreskin and twists it into new yet familiar shapes. By
turns aggresive, yet sensitive, he writes techno with a
hardcore pencil.

seriously though, he speaks real highly of his new album,
like it's a masterpiece..it's real nice, very much up to my
taste, but him saying stuff like that just puts me off..so i
was wondering whether he's always like that or is this the
case only with this new album?

(btw, some girl got to write the boc review..i haven't heard
the whole review yet but from what i heard she must think
it's the best thing that ever happened to music :)

His whole take on the 'Bastard pop' thing put me off when he
makes his cd's copy protected.

actually listened to him.

pounds?

I like the GQ on the EQ ep a lot and most of the others
almost a lot too. And I've never met a Kid606 CD I couldn't
rip.

i don't think so..must be girls like it in general..it
starts something like; if rock n roll is secks then boc is
making love...not just explicit , phisical one, but eros to
the entire world blah blah..

Good point. I am not sure what they mean by copyprotected i
guess. If there is a disc in this world with data on it
there is always a means by which one can retrive it

there?

if someone asked me of electronic artists from us i'd
probably name matmos and kid first..but i sort of know what
you mean about the scene..there's a bit of a scene around
the tigerbeat label and then some around schematic..8 or so
years ago it was a totally different thing though..probably
even better than uk at that time.

I saw Kid606 at Bangface a few weeks ago, he was being a bit
of a cunt... his live stuff was a bit wank, simple and
always stopping & starting for some reason, and then he had
the nerve to shout at the crowd for not dancing enough...

offline wimp on 2005-11-20 19:00 [#01783442]

I've seen him a lot here in SF. People dance like crazy
though, so it's always a blast.

Miguel 606 on "Resilience":

" this is my favorite album because I had so much internal
pressure and inspiration to make these songs, but no
external pressure to ever make an album out of it or worry
about deadlines or how it would be received. None of these
songs are about being naive and discovering things like my
past releases, but all about successfully transferring what
I heard in my head into songs and then into an album I
always wanted to make".

Just sounds like a dude who really likes the songs he wrote
for his new album. Would you expect less from a musician?

What does this one sound like? Noisy, industrial or ambient.
I really like most of his new stuff, altho it gets trying
after a while.

so i was wondering whether he's always like that or is
this the
case only with this new album?

He's quite prolific.. he seems to have honestly revered this
one more than others. He seems pompous at times but not to
the point of being a complete asshole. From what I have
read he seems fairly likeable. I don't have the new one yet
but I'm eager to get it judging from his comments. 'Down
with the Scene', for example, was incredible.

also, is he like the biggest electronic music superstar
in
US?

Haha, there is no such thing as an electronic music
superstar in the US. The closest you'll get to that is
Oakenfold, and most people haven't even heard of him.

it's ambient i guess..more like a chill out thing..with slow
beats and lovely melodies.

uviol, cheers for that. the first paragraph is at most
helpful, and i was ofcourse kidding a bit about the
superstar term. im pretty aware of how much electronic
musicians are known outside electronic scene-which is
probably close to nothing-so i was thinking known in terms
of underground electronica :)

i saw him a few months ago here in salt lake. there were
seriously, like, eight people at the show. i felt bad for
him, but he played out his set like a champ and fucked up
the amps at the venue. it was loud to say the least. i only
spoke to him briefly and he seemed nice enough. i'll have to
check out the new album.

ah, understood. :) I sorta realized 'superstar' was playful
hyperbole, but it's true.. like you said electronic music is
still on the fringes of the entire music industry. most
people I run into who talk about it lump everything together
as 'techno' music and have gigs upon gigs of mislabeled (or
unlabeled) DJ mixes on their itunes playlists. IDM is out
of the question. People may have heard of Aphex Twin, but
only in conjunction with their trendy indie bands. It's
rare that I meet others genuinely into anything electronic,
much less experimental.

As for kid606, I don't hear much about him. when the name
does come up, it's usually because I bring it up, and then
it is met with ambivalent reactions at best. It's a shame
because I think he's had some great ideas and very solid
releases over the years. alot of times he's unfairly
written off as solely a gimmick or iconoclast.

Altho a lot of the whole TB6 thing was the satiric icon
thing. Cex with his gold teeth that say cex, and acting like
the 'idm thug', and k606 using all the pop music in his
bootlegs. Action packed mentalist is still one of the best
bootlegs out there, even if its just samples overtop of a
distorted drum, that has spent a combined week at least in
my cd player worth of being played. Thats a lot of distorted
drums and pop music.
