how far do you go in sampling other peoples stuff? how far in do you feel that it is "too far" or you have sampled too much? friend taught me a lot of chords on the piano and since then i have been sampling a lot less.. |

i'd say in most cases the samples i use are obscure or unrecognizable by the time i'm done with them. but everything i do is for non-commercial purposes (aka no one is interested in buying my music) so i sample, chop fold and grind whatever i will. |

I don't really ever do it myself, or enjoy it when other arists do it on the whole. I'm sure there's skill involved in using other music samples successfully, and I do like some tracks which sample other tunes a lot, but I sometimes get dissapointed when I discover that a track I have enjoyed is mostly just other tunes cut up and edited with some new sounds thrown in. I know that's ridiculous; the end product is what is important, not the process-but it's just something that bothers me. |
