I can't seem to add my ipod to the laptop at home without
wiping it. Whenever I stick it in the usb it says "this ipod
is linked to another library, do you want to wipe all songs
and add all songs from the library?" (or summat like that).
If I say no, it doesn't show up in the list on the left.
Happened on a few pcs. I have used a few different
computers, same thing happens... stumped.

Using itunes btw

It is linked to one computer itunes library. So you can't
stick in your mates computer and nick all his mp3. You have
to use the hard disc portion of the pod, well that whats I
do with my shuffle.

It's definately Itunes, i've had the same problems when
transferring pictures. If anyone finds a nicely cracked
version of Anapod Explorer, let me know.

Maybe it helps if you switch off the "update iPod automatic"
and set it to "Add songs and playlist manually".

I don't know if the english prashes are exactly the same
because I use the Dutch version.

yep, that works.

and for the record, as for ripping stuff from a mate's ipod
to your computer, ipodrip (google) does the job.

Paying hundreds of dollars for added headache...

I think consumers have lost it.
