the definition of idm?

no. IDM is a hobby. A name made by journalists followed by
idiots.

i tend to disagree. it initially spawned as
a mailing list devoted to the discussion
of aphex twin and artificial intelligence
era warp releases, then quickly grew into
an acronym to describe a wide variety of
abstract electronic music.

that..

abstract in a way that doesn't follow
normal convention.

oyvinto, we're not aiming to make our readers
wiser, we're just throwing out some of the main
ideas behind the acronym.

offline pietrobot on 2005-11-02 19:08 [#01768356]

oyvinto, i did not write the article, check the intro.
it was written by Stefan Koopmanschap at EMW

jivverdicker, normal as in what you
hear when you turn on your radio.

comments.

i certainly agree that there are several definitions.
if you actually read the full article (and i doubt that
you did), you'll learn that there's an infinite amount
of possible definitions.

for idm !.

you asked if i wrote the article. if you read
the article sub-heading you'd see it wasn't
me.

offline hedphukkerr from mathbotton (United States) on 2005-11-02 19:23 [#01768373]

that article was kind of pointless.

navel-gazing if you will.

offline JivverDicker from my house on 2005-11-02 19:25 [#01768375]
Points: 12102 Status: Regular | Followup to pietrobot: #01768368

that crappy article has wikipedia as a back up for that
rubbish. Squarepusher, Aphex, Ae, the books, khonnor,
snaresy etc try their best to express theirselves. Why do
you feel he need to pigeon hole them together?

offline pietrobot on 2005-11-02 19:29 [#01768377]
Points: 860 Status: Lurker

the article is not an attempt to pigeon hole
any particular artists (notice there's no
mention of any one particular artist), instead
it attempts to gave a basic overview of the
so-called genre.

Why?

offline pietrobot on 2005-11-02 19:30 [#01768379]
Points: 860 Status: Lurker

i wouldn't really take it so seriously,
the article was not meant to give a
true definition, but to question the
possible definitions.

Points: 12102 Status: Regular | Followup to pietrobot: #01768379

As you say it wasn't meant to give a true definition and it
doesn't. What questions has it posed to you and the
'normal' listener?

offline pietrobot on 2005-11-02 19:37 [#01768381]
Points: 860 Status: Lurker

it has posed the question of what the
true definition is by reflecting on the
many possible answers that revolve
around the term.

do you have anything else, jivverdick?

offline nacmat on 2005-11-02 19:38 [#01768382]

I found it to be a nice reading... didnt really discover
anything new to me... bu it was nice... I dont know... I
just dont expect to much from any article... its more of an
intro to a wider discussion... like the one we have here
now...

good night.

jivverdick, i'm not sure how serious you are,
or if you just enjoy typing away in an attempt
to dismantle this topic, but perhaps you'll have
better luck tomorrow. cheers,

in summary...

the articLe says:

i don't know what the fuck is IDM, so i'LL give pointLess
facts and never reach a concLusion

and that's that!

offline pietrobot on 2005-11-02 19:47 [#01768388]

rasec, it's simply an open discussion.
if it has wasted your time, move on to
the next topic. it's easy.

it hasn't wasted my time at aLL, i found it (as nacmat says)
an introduction to a wider discussion...

offline nacmat on 2005-11-02 19:53 [#01768390]

maybe the ptoblem here, the cause of people bashing the
article, is the fact that this has been discussed to hell in
these forums
so people is kind of tired of the idm debate after 7 years
of internet life

funny though that the debate is still alive

anyway why the aim to give music names? I guess men like to
give names to everything... you need a name to sell a poduct

This site is a bit of fun. IDM is shit. Your radio show is
lame to say the least. Try not posting your shitty shows for
2 months and we'll all see how popular your selections are.

I will leave the building before the fire reaches me

but I must be missing something here... was there a
previous personal fight between pietrobot and jivver?

if not, I cant understand why all the fire just for this
article

once again, I think I only understand half of the story
