i really kind of doubt that afx is holding out on anything that either a) is legimately different than anything that has been done already or b) is different than anything he's done and better than other artists who are also doing that sort of thing already
i have much respect for the man, but i don't think of him as this infinite fountain of innovation or anything. same goes for any of these fellers, really.

it was just a joke.
but what do you think makes him more capable of revolutionizing electronic music than, oh i don't know, Autechre, for instance?

first of all his interest in music. i can't put my finger on what makes him more competent for doing this than autechre, just a feeling i guess. maybe also something to do with the fact that he has tried many different things in music whole autechre seem to stick with one. not sure..intuition :)

i wouldn't say autechre stick with one sound or style... i don't think that's true at all.
wouldn't it make sense that an artist who is most experimental (whoever that is) would be the one to "revolutionize" a form of music? how does competency factor into that?

i don't know..i don't understand music theory enough to answer that. aphex composes music and autechre compose sound..what the heck..jav.

that wasn't a theory question... i was just asking you what is best criteria to use when you want to guess who could revolutionize electronic music...
and really, there's no difference between composing music and composing sound.

Plastikman just makes throwbacks.
RDJ only emulates (well) what other people are doing.
Ae makes music that is so focused in its point, that the only thing they change is subcultures.
All of these, of course, go towards shifting the focus or evolving electronic music, but none of them will ever make any drastic change on their own. Well, autechre already have, but I think they are well past the point of making anything other than arthouse electronic music.

i dunno i mean we all know snares is the marmite of zilty you either love him or you hate him. But i can kinda see a scene growing around him, and a scene thats gonna get pretty big imo. I know alot of non electronica fans who really dig snares which i find fascinating, i can just see a new group of snares fans following in his wake.

not only do i agree with taffmonster that vsnares may become mainstream or popular (which is totally different from being avant-garde), i will also say that his style has changed in some ways over the years and i like his music a lot.
maybe if you've only heard his early crap with speedranch you'd think he sucks. :)

that making orange things is nice to get mental to..same as his other stuff only harsher. i like the harsher songs from other albums as well, not to listen to at home but to hear them at club. not my thing at all, music wise..
