it's not good, it's great. i haven't heard anything this
good for a long time (except the new howard jones remix)

obvious comparisons with ultravisitor and to a less extent
with drukqs, i'd say it's better than both.

its fucking sweet, yes

I also dig the new Reunion album, its also nice

The Flashbulbs releases on Sublight have been his best
records imo.

from my man Ke1kal:

This album left me breathless, Benn Jordan is a true
musician, in every sense of the word. This album, while
encompassing a wide range of styles (from soft rock to drum
n bass to jazz to classical to noise) manages to retain a
very nice flow. "Kirlian Selections" feels like it is
telling a story, what that story is, is completely up to the
listener. For me it will always remind me of that first
gorgeous day after winter, when I could go outside and just
relax completely. It was the day I got this album.

I can't really name all the standouts because of the many
genres incorporated into this album, but "Passage D"
"Binedump" "Autumn Insomnia Session" "Kirlian Choices" and
"Miles and Miles" jump to mind... this album has a very
cinematic sound though, and is best in effect when listened
to from start to finish. As I write this the beautiful
strings of "Kirlian Changes" are playing away...

There aren't really any albums out there that I can compare
this one to, except for (somewhat) Squarepusher's
"Ultravisitor" and Aphex Twin's "DruQks"... leaning more
towards Squarepusher's drill 'n' bass and jazz stuff if
anything, but "Kirlian Selections" is still a completely
different thing on it's own....

Bottom line, a top notch, sublime release, beautiful in many
ways, provoking many different feelings and images in your
mind, a total musical journey. If Sublight Records continues
releasing albums of this calibre, it will be very well known
very quickly.

ESSENTIAL

I'd have to agree on the power of the record. While some
tracks do seem to be Squarepusherish (Dishevel comes to
mind), he's working with a completely different palate than
Jenkinson. It's amazing how flawlessly he segues from
mind-numbing Drill to beautiful ambient compositions across
this album. It's also amazing how powerful and memorable his
melodies are.

This is a top notch release, I'd recommend it to anyone and
everyone here.

him.

he is as good as pusher.
I just can't see him being as seasoned live.
Saying that pusher does not spank the plank as vigourousily
as in the good old days.
Good shit is my conclusion.
Unlike that V.Snares breakbullshit.

I think it's more about him showing more of his musicality,
he plays a shitload of "non-electronic instruments" very
well, be it percussion, stringbased or whatever. And I'd say
the Reunion tracks are far superior to most of Squarepushers
2 minute "jazz-solo" fillers, even though some of them are
very good (especially circlewave and tetra-sync makes me
cream).

did this guy compose the classical pieces on kirlian
selections from scratch and are they recorded with real
instruments (as opposed to digital hard/software)?

The cello for example sounds as real as it gets, but i'm
clueless as to what's possible these days with technology.

compositions are absolutely brilliant.

instruments but he plays guitar violin etc!

great album but there are two things that bother me about
it.
kirlian isles ii was ruined by the loud screaming at the
end, that should have started for dishevel. and cherokee
script (track 23) got intense during the end and ended way
too fast. that sucked.

i listened again today after this thread. In many places I
was just wishing he would give me the source files so I
could arrange for him because most of these 2 minutes things
are a fucking awful mess of fantastic parts. I really dont
mind about the derivativeness but I dont know why hes done
these annoying sketch tracks instead of finishing them
properly
