SLSK port-forwarding problem

I'm having severe difficulties with this - I did at my
mum's without any problems, but here it's just not working.
I have followed the instructions for port-forwarding but
each time I test it it claims 'Your router and/or Soulseek
client needs to be configured correctly.'

What's the local IP address of your computer, and is it
assigned by the router's DHCP or configured manually?

Well, it's a static I.P. Is it wise of me to post it here?

Wait wait wait. Do you have a router or not? If you're
hooked directly to the cable or dsl modem you shouldn't have
to do port forwarding...

If the computer's address is 192.168.xxx.xxx it's safe to
post it here because it's non-routable. Strictly internal to
lans.

Okay, I have a router. the internal IP is 192.168.1.1, which
I've forwarded before and that didn't work. So I tried
forwarding my external IP and that hasn't worked, either.

matterboxtm

Ah, so you want to be original and you use 1 for the third
octet. Fine, be it your way, but don't expect respect in the
geek comunity.

But wait a moment, how do you forward an IP? You forward one
port only to a specific local IP in your LAN.

192.168.1.1 is the router's address. The PC's address is
probably 192.168.1.100 if it's a linksys router and you're
using DHCP (which means the router assigns an IP to
computers on the LAN automatically). You have to forward the
slsk ports to the PC's address, not the router's.

oh wait - so forward them to the 192.168 address?

Do these things on your computer:
click Start
choose Run
type cmd
press enter
type ipconfig
press enter
tell us what you see

192.168.1.3

or better still, go to your Control Panel, choose Network
Connections or sth like that.
choose TCP/IP protocol from the list
press Properties (?)
tell us what you see.

Thanks - that's what I did at my mum's that I didn't do here
- check ipconfig on my computer. It worked.

Yeah, you have to forward the ports to the 192.168.1.???
address - in your case the ??? is probably 100, but check to
make sure.

You have to find out what the PC's address is. There should
be a local network page in the router's config with a button
marked "dhcp clients table" or something like that which
will show you what addresses have been assigned to PCs on
your network. If you only have one PC, there ya go. But
192.168.1.1 is almost certainly the router itself.

offline QRDL from Poland on 2005-10-27 16:08 [#01763170]

ok, so forward a port of choice to 192.168.1.3 and then set
that port in slsk's options. Or the other way around, first
slsk, then router. Choose your own path

Ah yeah, ipconfig would work too.
