what does everyone use these days?

i'm thinking of getting back into it again - after napster
closing & moving i stopped.

but now i'm spending so much money on new stuff without
trying it out first. e.g. bogdan racnaski - bought his new
album last week - its interesting at times but not something
i needed to own!

Quite a nice little community of users as well...

Morpheus has been getting a better selection lately and the
dl speeds are great. Soulseek is really good for that rarer
electronic stuff though.

downloading music is morally wrong. those poor artists need
to eat you know.

if you love electronic music, why rip off the artists?

I like to download a couple of tracks to see if it's worth
buying or not.
There are so many albums i'd like to get that i have to
choose between them as i can't afford them all.
Also i download tracks that are deleted and impossible to
buy.
So that's hardly ripping off the artist is it?

That's exactly what I do. It gives me access to artists
that would never (or very seldom) be played on the radio or
have videos on TV.

Jonesy: Sorry, you're wrong, it depends on the honesty of
the individual. If you can truthfully say you wouldn't *buy*
it you aren't ripping anyone off.

Yeah it's about time we started taking lessons on Morals
from rock stars. They are so wise.

Trevorgod, you're right. I look to Motley Crue, Poison and
Bon Jovi to guide me on the proverbial moral path

its stealing - sure it doesnt matter to elton john, and it
doesnt matter too much to aphex but it does matter to people
like wagon christ cylob etc . it makes a huge difference to
these artists who only subsist on money they make from music

Here here. I've changed my mind. Lets give loads of cash to
the record labels and artists. I mean where are they to get
the money to buy their tanks, houses in Wales and bank
vaults?

Yes, I would download the Rockstar's music and I would also
bang his hot wife.
Call my actions "morally wrong".

Oh and btw, I use Morpheus and Kazaa. Kazaa had more
Squarepusher back when I wanted to get my hands on some of
that. that's about all the comparitive data I have.

Jonesy: Houses in Wales are not that expensive! It's not
like having a limo or anything (unless it's in Llandaff or
Abergavveny)

Thanks mate, that's lovely, but at what point, i wonder,
does a struggling artist stop being glad of the chance to
share his music with new listeners, and start decoming a
paranoid moneygrabber?

..and to be honest, if Wagon Christ, Cylob, et al were that
bothered about making pots of cash they'd go straight for
the commercial stuff instead of making music which they
like, but which doesn't sell millions...

offline jonesy from Lisboa (Portugal) on 2002-02-27 08:56 [#00104276]

Houses in Wales are getting expensive. I saw a programme on
it. Wealthy people are moving from the south of England to
buy up properties in Wales, hence the hostility to 'English
immigrants'. Plaid Cymru can make political mileage from the
frustration of the rural poor in Wales.

I don't like the way Cardiff is going. Every time I go home
they've erected another monstrosity to attract more
business. They're trying to create a European city and its
looking worse every month.

Sorry this has turned into a rant.

Oh yeah, we were talking about music right?

I agree that artists with integrity make music for its own
sake and not for money. However we all have to live and pay
the bills so money inevitably has to come into the
equation.

I just get pissed at rich pop/rock stars who make millions
and then appear on charity records/concerts asking for our
money. Its such a bloody cheek. They've got their heads so
far up their arses that they can't see the contradictions
i.e for them and their record companies to be rich, others
have to be poor. If about two or three of the fuckers got
together they could probably wipe out the third world debt
of about 20 countries.

But then again the people we talk about are hardly of the
same ilk.

Yeah, i've always thought that about charity records, and
charity gigs.
And they're such bad entertainment.
If all those dreadful Live Aid artists had come up with the
money between them they could have saved us the Trauma of
having to listen to that crap.
Actually i'd have paid them not to do it...

support local artists and friends who make music. it's worth
the money. fuck robbie williams, madonna etc. Why give them
anything more than just listening to their (shitty) music??

Its tough to draw the line between artists who are "rich and
don't need the money" and independant local artists...that's
why I feel all music that you listen to should be purchased
