I thought it was great. Unfortunatly I didn't see for a long time because the commercials made it look like a Tom Cruise film. I really dug the biblical references, thought it was kinda funny.

Yeah... That's part of the biblical refernce. Wan't there a bunch of 83s as well. Something like exodus 8:3. "Let my people go or there will be a plague of frogs". Or something to that effect. The hardware store where The Wiz kid worked was 'Solomon and Son's' ie. king solman. all sorts of funky stuff like that.

i went with 6 people to see this movie and 5 of us loved it, the 6th slept. it was so inventive with such great roles, i recommend the soundtrack, i believe everything was written by Aimee Mann.
listen to the track Save Me....absolutely beautiful. =)

yea that movie was great, you never knew what was gonna happen. i love intertwining stories that somehow all fit together. i think it would be difficult tho to see this film at home, it's almost 3 hrs long and seeing this in a theatre woulda prolly been best =)

Short Cuts is good but I don't know about it being superior to magnolia. They are movies not laundry detergents so there is no reason to compare them like that. Besides that, owning magnolia does not mean that you can't own Short Cuts.

well to put it another way i disliked magnolia didnt like it at all because of the characters i couldnt care less for , it just seemed everyone was sad about somthing and things just got worse for them, and the save me song and the frogs and the length i felt the length because i wasnt engoying this long trying hard to be gloomy movie,
but shortcuts is in the same vein as this movie and the length is similer and i loved this movie all the characters were brilliant, i dont wanna argue about this petty shit i just wanna say go see shortcuts !

i saw jesus' son i didn't really care for it. i do like that actor... whats his name? i didn't like the move though for the same reason you seem to dislike magnolia; didn't care about the characters or anything they were doing.
in magnolia though, its not about the characters as much as it's about the similarities in each character's philosophy on their own existances. i agree the movie is a little pretentious but as a p.t. anderson fan, it is easily, in my opinion, his best work.

i think altman is a wonderful director...seen godsford park yet....it's brillian!! i have to agree, i really liked magnolia whilst thought shortcuts was lacking in some areas. i think it comes down to having an affinity with the characters or not. =0)

Oh, yeah, P.T. Anderson uses a lot of the same cast in his movies. And he also said that the movie was mostly based AROUND the songs of Aimee Mann, so the movie is sort of built around the music, not the other way around.
