spend the two minutes it takes to figure out how the 'que'
function works,

what are they? just a cheap set of pioneers or something?

I'm after some CD decks, I've seen some Stanton ones for
£120 each.

djing w/ cd's is WICKED lame

unless your an international sensation like vsnares or john
b...in which case lugging vinyl would get fucking old

besides that its lame to the MAX

How?

I already use vinyl decks w/ 4 channel mixer. This way I can
either DJ from vinyl, DJ from CD's or both. I don't see what
the difference is.

its a cultural difference

vinyl collecting is a culture...cd buying is what teenage
girls do

heeheeheehee

im such a catty bitch

Yeah, most people who moan seem to be wittled down to the
fact they are jealous over the tunes you have access to with
CD decks.

offline euphonicfilter from illadelphia (United States) on 2005-10-26 14:13 [#01761906]
Points: 2443 Status: Addict

im not jealous...thats what white labels are for...if
anything you should be jealous of all the non-cd releases
there are on vinyl

plus you can d'load shit, burn, and play it out like you
actually sought out that nugget, purchased it (however
expensive it is), and played it out

there is little adventure, heartbreak, or experience in cd
djing...its mechanical, cold, and lame (i think)

its like djing w/ traktor...unless your mixing YOUR
tunes...who cares...anyone w/ one arm can be a dj now...its
ruining the art form

its like considering yourself a photographer cause you have
photoshop and a digital camera...your not, its not, its
lame

(again...i think)

Playing downloaded tunes is a good way to get shafted off
the PRS. You could download free tunes, burn them to CD and
mix too. The lines are blurred all over the place. I intend
to get some CD decks to connect to my mixer so I can mix my
rare vinyl with my CD's.

my lines arent...vinyl only please...no d'loading, no
burning, record shops, dusty fingers, then beers ! YAY !

to each his own

i could see another excuse being your a collector / former
dj (like myself) and you dont wanna hurt your vinyls
condition...so you d'load, whatever, burn your stuff to cd
to play around with...that would make sense

i get mad at kids who dont support vinyl...thats shitty !

I don't have CD decks yet, my vinyl ends up covered in speed
and spew and all sorts. It's there to be used.

"its like considering yourself a photographer cause you

And a musician because you have a copy of fruity loops
also?

You are funny!

Dj'ing is as good a place to start as any other place. I dj
with both cds and vinyl also. I also have photoshop and a
digital camera. I enjoy using them all. Plus i am
sure that professional photographers use photoshop.

off course they use photoshop, that's wasn't the point :D
point was, technology doesn't make you a photograph
everybody can now dj with traktor so it's harder to make
true talent recognised
i'm not a vinyl purist like euphonicfilter, but he's got a
good point with that comparaison imo...

Maybe so... Mixing with cds still requires skill though.
Granted that not as much.

Micing with CDs allows you to re-edit or remix tracks. You
can't do that with vinyl. And i prefer CDs for music
listening becuz I'm not used to chnaging faces every 15
minutes yet (i've got my turntable for only 1 month)

But I think vinyls are more fun : seeing a DJ mixing with
vinyls is way more interesting than with CDs. And u know
that the songs played haven't been actually chosen and
bought by the DJ, and not randomly downloaded in 128 kbps.

So for me it's CD for listening and vinyls for mixing. I'm
gonna buy a second turntable soon hen I have the money
(already got the DJ mixer) and as i don't mix what I listen
to (but I love both kinds of tunes !), i'm always happy !

By the way I don't care that much, as long as I can enjoy
awesome music.

By the way, euphonicfilter, you are probably a hip-hop
addict who loves the vinyl culture. It'd probably have been
the same if I were older and if I had listened to HH for a
longer time, but when I began digging hip-hop, I didn't
consider buying a turntable so now i've got a lot of albums
on CD and won't buy them again on vinyl... I only have a
couple of HH on vinyls...

tolstoyed... i recently had the pleasure of learning how to
use an old pair of pioneer decks with a numark kaos pad
mixer.. the mixer really helped for making cool sounds
with CDs, but at least---

learn how to PAUSE on your preferable downbeat, and hit cue
and hold it (all of this on your cue channel of course) and
adjust the beat tempo from there. if your decks have a
master pitch function it's useful for keeping the pitch the
same while fucking with tempos. also, if your decks have
loop in / loop out functions, use those as well.

n0o0w0w0owow0w:
write your own beats at interellated tempos and keys: 5ths
apart like 120 / 160 and related roots in melodies etc

write them so they offer a lot of content progressing by
themselves, but are enjoyable if a bar is looped long enough
for you to mix into the other deck, or just to fuck around.

you'll look like a wizard with 8 count crossfades AND
PERFECT BEAT MATCHING SKILLZ to an unwitting observer

CD turntables are an awesome way to perform loopbased live
sequencing of your own music.
