if you could erase one band from history

The Beatles were different than 'boy bands' because they
wrote their own music and inspired a large musical movement,
even if they weren't the only one's playing music like that.
It may seem a bit hoky by today's standards, but all music
of today builds upon the music of the past.

luckily they went out of the boyband phase, started taking
loads of drugs and spent the rest of the time in a recording
studio - producing good results.

that being said, chumbawamba could be erased and no-one
would notice.

we are discussing music.. you can't really talk about
music without talking about something that "doesn't effect"
you... music DOES indeed effect us and bad bands / music you
don't like effects you in the way that.. well, it puts you
in a bad mood.

you really can't compare postgirobygget and de lillos can
you? i'm not a fan of either but it's not the same league
really. i choose lillo to postgirobygget and luxus
leverpostei any day.

poet, men da hadde sikkert aldri noen hørt tekstene hans.

to the others: sorry about the norwegian. but you haven't
missed anything interesting.

Jeg tipper Bjørn*, som kan De Lillos tekstene, ikke kan
tekstene til postgirobygget. Men de tekstene kan Per**.

**Per.

cannot understand why no one has assassinated them yet.

hahahah!

The Doors, damn fine keyboards?! Another one of my
indie-loving friends said something similar and showed me a
keyboard solo from one of their CDs. It was appallingly
amatureish and naff sounding.

Frans Ferdinand, The White Stripes, The Hives, etc....all
those kind of bands should never have existed.

You know, there is no right answer to this question.
Everyone likes different types of music and different
musicians. They think the one's they like are the best. I
don't like when people say, "Oh I hate them" or "---------
are the best!" I'm not saying this was a bad topic, it's
fine, just some of the things people respond to with are
questionable to me. Maybe this all made more sense in my
head.

Man, there is so much iconoclasm in this thread! Some
surprisingly big names are being torn apart! The Beatles,
U2, Nirvana, Radiohead, NIN.. and even the Smashing
Pumpkins! I thought everybody liked them..

I was thinking on a much more micro-scale actually, to these
more recent bands that are completely obnoxious. Right on
there, fantomawz.. Postal Service and all its incarnations
are simply sickening. It's the hipster, Starbucks-loving,
indiefart, nu-emo, 'random' crowd bastardization of both IDM
and indie music. What the hell were they thinking? Just
because you play shitty emo tracks on a sonic palette shared
by IDM does NOT mean that you've made IDM. I wish those
fuckers would leave it alone and stop masquerading as these
high-minded innovaters bringing some common sense to the
anal electronic world. Postal Service, Death Cab, Gorillaz,
and all that shit should be suffocated in their own feces
for offending the intelligence of our entire species.

Apologies for the prick-ish tone of that post. I was not
attempting to assert my superiority so much as I was
disenchanted by the typical audience that this type of music
usually attracts. I'm sure since you've actually given this
some thought you are automatically not in the group I'm
thinking of. I'm tired of people asking me if I like the
Postal Service when I've told them I enjoy electronic music,
and I don't appreciate the 'too cool for school' image that
those bands try to foster. Even if this isn't their intent,
it's what is portrayed. It's not helped by the retarted
music journalism (of which Pitchfork is the prime offender)
that makes them out to be the best thing sinced sliced
bread. Some of the reviews of this stuff are just plain
biased. For example:

'..But with Life Is Full of Possibilities, Tamborello
separates himself from the tired, poor and huddled masses of
bedroom programmers. Enlisting members of the West Coast
indie elite, the album is a matchless combination of
scratchy indie rock and post-Oval electronics.'

So, IDM wasn't trendy enough before? It couldn't possibly
be enjoyed if it wasn't sactioned by artists or labels who
make 'real' music? I don't know, this is obviously just a
personal sore spot. I still don't like the music, but what
I just described is where the misdirected vehemnce of that
last thread came from. Sorry if I upset you there.
