i like techno and house.
Techno was what got me into dance music in the first place.
I also like house.
Both are good in the right environment.

Define acid.
Do you mean like hardfloor/Plastikman type techno, or more like free party squat music like the Smitten/Liberator vibe?

I absolutely love House music! Techno, not so much but I don't mind the odd listen to it. It's a shame the genre appears to have been shunned and rejected by most of the general populous simply because Eminem rapped
"Moby you're too old, let go/nobody listens to Techno"
*sigh* even I find myself using other words to describe what music I like if the question is posed. I don't know why but it's almost embarassing to say "techno" now so House, Trance, Acid and IDM it is..

Saying "nobody listens to techno" just shows how woefully out of touch Eminem is. He's like a Hip Hop version of some celebrity gossip magazine, dishing the dirt on people no one remotely gives two hoots about. He's as qualified to proclaim the death of Techno (or, whatever he meant by Techno, ...rave music, "faggy" disco, it's all messed up in his brain) as he is to state the definitive case for Inuit madrigals.

i wouldn't even put Eminem and hip hop in the same sentence. Even though i just did.
He's a hip hop version of Pete Waterman. Formulaic.

I like a more relaxed, laid back versions of house, like Nuthre. I used to like rave, but it all seem so primitive to me now, I don't imagine myself going to a techno/house party with DJ's, whistles, stupid outfits, and sweaty people. No, no. Rock/metal gigs are sooo much better.
And yes, it's very embarrassing to use the term techno. The associations are usually obvious for everybody. And I'm not surprised.

I totally agree, it's just sad that so many of his fans act like pathetic 'maggots' attached to a host and listen to everything he says and take it as truth. Someone recently stated that Electronic music was supposed to be the music of the 21st century and that it was a shame rap and hip-hop had taken over-well really it's because people believe the opinions of lowlifes like Eminem and 50 cent who probably think that Kraftwerk is the company which makes dairy products.
Eminem = (c)rap.

It's a tough issue. Let me say it another way. When I say that I listen to techno music (sometimes i have to say this, because usually nobody has a clue, when I say IDM), I think "Autechre" etc., they think "love parade". I can't give you a logical explanation... Usually, here, in Poland, being an intelectual, a die-hard music lover, and a "techno" fan at the same time is beyond people's comprehension. Then again, IDM is techno... BUT at the same time it's so much more... Fuck.

Specifically Steel City Records from the 90's and whatever Ritchie Hawtin is up to is always great. He's doing 5.1 surround stuff these days, little tweets dancing around your head, new level shit.

Techno here isn't really about Love Parade and gurning your tits off. For me and my friends it was always about the music.
I was more into techno nights like those at the Orbit near Leeds, where you would get the likes of Ken Ishii, Luke Slater, etc. Or Atomic Jam in Birmingham where it was more Dave Angel, Dave Clarke, Carl Craig etc.
More about the music (for me), though drugs do come into it.

I don't think of "Love Parade" if I think of Techno, I'd think of "Love Parade" if someone said Euro Trance, but, Techno... Techno's a catch all term that encompasses lots of things, a term that's lost its original tight little genre to become a broader reference to electronic music that isn't easily catagorisable, it's a better than IDM that's for sure, and anyone who says "Oh faggy shit" or similar probably isn't an authority on music to begin with.

You'd better talk about "electronic music" or "electronica" when it comes to Autechre, rather than "techno". Use "techno" for techno.

hmmm detroit techno is a quite specific sub-genre. Strange techno seems to have lost it's meaning now as a result of newer and more detailed classifying terms for electronic songs/artists.
