Why was this topic closed? It's about independent
electronic music. How did you know this wasn't the start of
his contribution?

His participation in the community may have been via e-mail!
You call their advertising spam but look at what's usually
discussed here, at least this is music. People have even
started posting their music under topics labelled [spam] how
shit is that?

matter?

"people" ? you mean a moderator who overreacted ?

those "people" forget that this mb would be quite poor
without musicians showing and exchanging their music.

The webmaster himself doesnt seem to approve of that. I
guess thats the end of the road.

I think we've has this discussion many times before. About
how people come to the community with nothing more than
spam. No discussions. They use this as their personal medium
or something and many members expressed their distain for
it.

Now the boss is expressing his.

Based on past discussions i would say that people being
bummed out are the minority which shouldnt come as a
surprise.

my mistake then.

still, i think Steedie is a dupe - i wouldn't get so serious
about it.

The guy posted his link and I found some good music to
download. We could discuss the content as long as the topic
stays open and it keeps all the indy electronica together.

Fair enough. Although most often times when these people
post they often get ignored and or 1 post. I think now that
phobia is encouraging the moderation of these aspects it
will serve as an attempt to discourage them.

They come here for the free advertisment for themselves at
an already thriving community of a particualr genre. Its
allowed from regular members because regular members
contribute to the community aspect of XLT.

These "freeloaders" just expolit aspect for their own
personal gain through self promotion.

Just offering a perspective different than your own. :)

You are right, but i think it's just The Webmaster's will.
If he gets upset - even gravity must work the other way.
There is good spam and bad spam, apparently. It is strange,
but this is Phobia's website and his messageboard.

I've noticed that it's quite common anywhere else : someone
becomes a lurker at a messageboard because he works on his
music, having no time to chat there all day long. And then
he comes and spams. Nothing wrong with that, imo.

offline bob from Nottingham (United Kingdom) on 2005-10-15 10:01 [#01750652]

i understand people wanting to minimise spam, but instead of
closing topics, why not have a specific spam thread pinned
at the top of the board?

That way people can have a dig round in there if they are
interested. if not, then don't look in there.

simple.

Points: 27325 Status: Lurker | Followup to bob: #01750652

That seems like a fair approach except that people often
tend to overlook and forget about pinned topics.

Sometimes a whole new thread is ok. But thats a solid idea i
think

They are flying our choons tho, they have nothing to
gain other then contacts and fans. They aren't even trying
to sell a CD for 50p. I'd rather be downloading his tunes
then reading Qrter correct another spelling mistake in a
'favourite cake' topic.

Aye, anyway, Black Moses is gon' fuk me up.

indy elec music on here already.

Um, no. "trust the crew" That was double-reverse sarcasm
that didn't pan out. Sorry. I support the handing out of

I'm into Banningtons where it is necessary, i.e. Skyfarmer.

All it was was a little bit of a Spam sandwich.

Didn't warrant Steedie's B7 by a long shot.
Or the stomp like grimlock thread shutting down.

everyone and spams everywhere ?

People have even started posting their music under topics
labelled [spam] how shit is that?

I don't know, how shit do you think it is? I thought it was
quite sensible as you know, generally, that the thread
contains someone "spamming" their music.

Why not [Music]? Search 'spam' for music on a spam filled
music board? Bleh! I'm guessing that was started by a bunch
of cynics.

It was just an easier way to make the board more tidy.

[vid] or [mix] and such.... i've also seen the [nsfw] which
comes in handy to warn people.

Also [spam] notes that it is that particular members tunes.
I am a fan of certain members and will immediately check it.
[music] is kind of generic.

I think it was started ironically, but also in recognition
of the fact that some people do just "spam" their music here
with no interest in the board. It's just another example of
the "healthy sense of humour" enjoyed by XLT that isn't
always present on other places.

As far as I know, and it's not my board to say, but that
attitude and a general consensus of maintaining some quality
control is what keeps the board special. Just saying "any"
electronic spam is fine, is not true, let the natural XLT
filter do its thing, these things happen for a reason.
WATMM's EKT board provides adequate space if you're looking
for a rimming in recognition of the fact you've managed to
"lay down some beats", but if you wanted a proper opinion,
I'd value the comments here more.

Fair point. I thought it reflected the attitude you where
buying into when posting tho but at least it's all in one
place.

Haha, you can't say anything without sarcasm.

Anyway it's not like I can't just start another topic about
whatever so I'm done. The overall quality of this board is
much better then others but you still get your pricks
bringing the place down with their hostility, ironic or not.
