Global Communication 76:14

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I just bought
a re-mastered version of this album, and I'm ashamed I
didn't pick it up before. It's one of the most beautiful CDs
I've listened to in recent times, with lovely melodies,
uplifting ambient tracks, and some nice etheral techno
thrown too.

I'm not sure how the remaster compares with the original,
but the bonus CD is also pretty good (though not as magical
as the album imho.) I really miss this early/mid 90's sound
in general.

This is a fantastic album. Bought the remastered version for
my ex's 30th birthday. I love this album. Definately in my
top 10.

Yeah, your latest ambient track and snippets remind me of
Global Communication's music in some ways.

So many classics come from that period; the early Autechre
albums, the 2nd and 3rd Orbital albums, FSOL's "Lifeforms",
The Orb's stuff, etc...

You seem entirely too cheerful. Did you forget to suckle
from the teat of bitterness again?

Because of your retarded-ass low dopamine wrist slitting
fuck-cunted bitterness, I guess.

Listen to CD1 of "Lifeforms", "Dead Cities", and "My
Kingdom".

I bought this the other day actually.

To be honest its not hitting me much yet. I like the first
track but I get a bit bored as it goes on. It sounds very
much like FSOL to my ears, and they are another band I've
only had limited affection for. I don't think I have the
attention span I once had, to listen to these sprawling
ambienty albums. I hope it will change as I miss this sort
of stuff.

I can understand that. It certainly requires some effort to
listen to; for example, I wouldn't just put it on for some
immediate enjoyment or even in most moods. But if you've got
the time to spare, or need something that feels like a
"journey", those albums work well imo.

bought it first time round, but I thought and still think
it's a bit too fluffy for my tastes. First and second tracks
are nice though...

I agree, I don't think this is such the landmark that people
make out. And it's nothing like FSOL at all. And it requires
about as much effort to listen to as scratching your arse,
it's nice, very nice, but ... I don't know, not all that
rewarding.

Yep its not instantly rewarding, I don't think. Its bloooy
long, too, I'm getting too weary for long albums I've found
:( Yes there is some nice bits though. I like the whispering
track. I am a bit disapointed so far, having read the
fantastic comments in the inlay before hand. 'Ranks
alongside Eno's best' - no, not really. It is lush, but its
not timeless like Eno's stuff. Still, I'll give it time.

DB - its totally like FSOL! It reminds me very much of
Lifeforms.

Hmmm, I wouldn't agree.... Lifeforms has a lot more going
on, and creates its own world, it's a lot more varied I
think than 76:14

Yes as an album I imagine they are quite different... but
the synths sounds and general pace kinda strike me as
similar.

I prefer Lifeforms I think, so far... got that whole
psychadelic rainforest thing going on.

Well, I didn't mean it required effort in that it was
"difficult" sounding, but the tracks take a fair while to
evolve, and I personally think you need to listen to the
whole thing in one sitting as each track builds on the
previous one.

I find Lifeforms more varied, but also more "messy" in
comparison to this. It's not quite as satisfying or
structured (but that's probably the whole point.)

i also only heard this lately and it's one of the best
things i've heard in ages and ages. it's almost like a cross
between saw85-92 and sawv2. i love it to death

If i want to not think about much at then this is perfect
music to think of nothing too. Thinking of nothing is
something iw ant to do quite alot recently, so i will be
enjoying this for a while.

It is quite similar to lifeforms buit this is cheesier. Yep,
that's right cheesier. Still good though, reminds me
of some of the stuff on ambient by moby.

I often find "cheesier" stuff more obviously satisfying.
Nothing wrong with some actual memorable melodies and nice
climaxes!

Is there anything else close to these (Lifeforms and 76:14;
90s ambient) out there? Im all over this stuff right now as
well.

the orb's adventures beyond the ultraworld and UF orb are
sort of along the same lines, i guess. both are excellent!

Yeah, me too. I found some of the material a bit too hippy
dippy ambient in places. This album would be very
unremarkable if those melodies were any different.
