yeah, so I just discovered tonight while watching Tron,
that this awesome track from Geometry, is based around a
sample from the soundtrack to Tron.

A little let down, as I always thought Jega was brilliant
for writing that... but it was actually wendy carlos...

Anyone know if anything on this album is sampled? Some other
tracks sound kinda like Tron too...

when i hear old kraftwerk synths, i'm always reminded how
lush and "present" they are...
then you hear modern electro-synths, and, sure they do
sounds weirder and there is way more timbral diversities,
but they never have the impact and exactness of the
kraftwerk ones

everybody samples old things because we are all lazy now...
you didn't have the choice before, you had to make your own
sounds and work hard to have "unique" sounds that sounded
good also, and you can virtually sample any electronic
sounds before the 80's and they'll be usable

it wouldn't surprise me at all if the whole things is
modified samples, guys like him and many others are always
sampling left and right for their tracks (luke vibert lol
:D)
first time i heard geometry i thiought to myself:"this
smells a lot of heavy timestretching and heavy filtering!"

Well, most virtual analogue and other digital synthesizers
are sample rom based. Wendy Carlos and Kraftwerk were using
fully analogue moog synthesizers, where most of the modern
electro-synths you are talking about are VA. So even tho
there is the ability for higher polyphony, you still loose
the character of the analogue sound.

Laziness is not the reason. Sampling is just as much a
choice as playing a note. Time is a filter. Certain things
become well known because they are started or popularized by
extremely talented people. Its not laziness. There were
hundreds of similar musics being produced back then, but the
ones that stand out are the truly profound.
