Pop music is awful, its true. However, its a subject thats been troubling me over recent years. Everyone loves Blondie, and there's not a man alive who doesn't love the Beatles. It seems that pop music gains a vintage as it matures. Every five or ten years, something poppy works its way back into the record collection. Pop is fun, accessible, and necessary for a well-roounded and diverse taste, as long as the 13 year-old girls have got over it. What's hot at the moment: 'mysterious Girl' by Peter Andre 'Mmmmbop' by Hanson 'Reach' by S Club 7. |

Nothing impresses me more than a taut, well-written, timeless pop song. That's a craft only the most skilled and charismatic can master. Of course if we're talking pop as in ''POPular'' or ''what's hot on the radio at any given time''', then yeah, it's usually pretty dire. Now moreso than ever, I think, though I don't really know what's hawt now. |

The Beatles borre me although I can't say I dislike them. 'Pop music is awful' is a stupid thing to say. Badly wrritten generric pop music is awful, but then so is metal etc... when it's just crrap in the firrst place. But we've had this topic. |

hmm,i have a 14 year old daughter,and all she listens to is R&B,(pop)and thats kinda now crossed with GANGSTA rap. so all her friends at school are now gangstas-but that in turn is crossed with chav-so if you wanna be trendy,play mario and dress gangsta chav-hope this helps. |

i haven't read this thread but there are two types of popular music. 1)music written, as art, which the mainstream has embraced and has become popular through artistic merit. 2) music written as a marketing tool to sell a brand or an image, to generate revenue. there is a difference between the two. blah blah blah pop. i'm sick and need lemsip and soup. |

The Beatles were unique, though. Their music was subject to the most radical evolution I've ever heard inside of pop. Also, they did the experimentation thing ludicrously well. |
