I like "Misfits, Loony Tunes and Squalid Criminals",
"Gesture Signal Threat" and "A Flock of Rotations" a lot.
These albums are lovely and great and stuff.

The only Zoviet France I own though, is the reissue of
"Popular Soviet Songs and Youth Music". Most ZF releases
seem pretty hard to get a hold of.

i've got more than 2GB of Zoviet France mp3s
Haven't listened to all of it, because it's a lot.
The music is like Nurse With Wound and Hafler Trio, but ZF
are said to be more crazy.

they have more in common with a georgian skiffle group than
they do nurse with wound or h3o

they only get shoved into that catagory cause they all know
each other

ok :)
just some ambient tracks are hard to tell if they are
different or not, from the three groups. Or maybe there are
people who can tell the difference

Just an Illusion is a pretty good one. Collusion is good
too as a compilation of sorts. Some related projects worth
checking out are Dead Voices on Air, which is Mark Spybey
and Rapoon, which is Robin Storey, both of whom were
involved with :z*f:

to say they have nothing in common is a stretch... i would
definitely feel no shame in mentioning them all in the same
breath, but ultimately all three entities have forged pretty
different paths sonically.

most of the Zoviet i've heard is more grainy-tape-ambient
than the other two... my personal fave is Monomische.

i didn't say they had nothing in common..

and about 80% of their material is really rhythmic and
instrumentation sounding - most of which they'd made
themselves

they have their ambient moments, who dosn't =)

the lp i mentioned is pretty organic and doesnt sound much
like the hafler trio stuff ive heard
but i have another track called "white dusk" which is pretty
digital sounding and well different, reminds me of trevor
wishart for some reason
thanks for mentioning stuff i can look for + the links

white dusk is off collusion, its a compilation of
compilation tracks =D

Garista's a good place to start with them, it has scrama
mdags and a track called 'mama piss' which everyone and
their granny should hear at least once

I am pretty excited about this new ex-soviet france members
project. I am a fan of both Robin Storey's and Mark
Spybey's work in DVOA and Rapoon and can only imagine that
together the results will be amazing.

yeah, i dunno i guess rhythm technically means its not
ambient, but i sort of think of it that way anyhow... at
least in the case of ZF...
