XBS - I want anyone interested in Buddhism, or indeed who
classes themselves a buddhist, to join this little
association so we can discuss / hang out / drink carrot
juice (nooo!) etc.

I have a question for the X.B.S.

Can Buddhums eat vegetabrles or is that bad?

Haha, there is a funny story - someone said to a schoraly
vegetarian "But vegetables have feelings too", to which this
wit replied, "Yes, but they don't scream as loudly."

the second rule of x.b.s is: 'no one shall talk

biggest step I've taken along the path.

to psychoanalysis. or the way of zen, etc..

Heh, I even had a collection of small buddha statues and
waterfall fountains.

i think buddhism is ok. i think im more into zen-buddhism as
it's more vague and has less rules

wiki exerpt says:
Zen is a form of Mahayana Buddhism that places great
importance on moment-by-moment awareness and 'seeing deeply
into the nature of things' by direct experience.

zen stories:

Someone in New York told me a story. When he was a young
boy, maybe in the sixth grade, he changed to a new school.
He was seated at a table with two girls. He said one was
very, very pretty, and he felt attracted to her, and the
other was not so pretty. But he liked both of them, and the
school was having a dance; and this was still the time in
history when boys asked girls to dances, and girls didn't
ask boys. He asked the less pretty girl to the dance.

When he told me this story, he put it in the context of his
own decision to not go after what he really wanted. But I
see it as something more complex than that. He had some
compassion for the feelings of the less pretty girl, and
felt he would have hurt her feelings and disappointed her if
he asked the other one to the dance. And so I think in our
phenomenal existence, we are always gaining something and
losing something, and that's a very important point for us
to bear in mind.

Ahhhh was that partridge? Brilliant

I'm sommmeeewhat Buddhist. I believe and practise a fair few
of their philosophies however I don't chant to the Buddha or
believe in reincarnation, which are fundamental properties
of being Buddhist.. I have been to a lot of Buddhist
classes, the guy who ran them was a Welsh monk. He was
great. Always gave examples, using noddy and "creeeaaam
buns".
The monks in Thailand are rubbbish. :D They touch women,
have mobiles, smoke.. etc etc. It's mad!

When Tired

A student once asked his teacher,

"Master, what is enlightenment?"

The master replied,

"When hungry, eat. When tired, sleep."

Moving Mind

Two men were arguing about a flag flapping in the wind.

"It's the wind that is really moving," stated the first
one.

"No, it is the flag that is moving," contended the
second.

A Zen master, who happened to be walking by, overheard
the debate and interrupted them.

"Neither the flag nor the wind is moving," he said, "It
is MIND that moves."

it's basically this: the new headmonk is chosen from all the
monks in the monastry because he shows his understanding of
zen by handing the old headmonk a flower

Don't Buddhists believe in Nirvana? Well Nirvana is Nil.
Unless Nil is more than God, which is suppose to be All,
then Buddhists don't believe in something "more" than God.
It's even infinitely less.

beliefs are held regarding reincarnation and the progression
toward an end to rebirth (and a state of nirvana).

these philosophies are based on the realisation of the mind,
which is unlike a void.

buddhist philosophies are unlike theistic beliefs, which
insist on the presence of a deity.

so yes it is true that buddhists dont believe in something
'more' than a deity, even if you were to attempt to measure,
because they dont believe in the existence of a deity.

from what ive been taught, that is attained when one reaches
enlightenment. when the mind becomes free from all earthly
trappings it is free to move on to the final state of
nirvana.

and end to the cycle of rebirth is not so much something to
be desired, as it is a natural progression according to
buddhist teaching.
