some genres suck because they are completely uninformative
or a failed attempt to tie together a bunch of only
partially related styles of music, e.g., 'emo,'
'alternative.' some are just inane, e.g., 'nerdcore,' 'IDM.'

the biggest problem i have with genre names is their use as
marketing tools. i feel like such labels are supposed to
make you think the CD you're about to buy sounds like a mix
of x and y (since most new genre names nowadays are just
combinations of two disparate genres existing already), and
the music never lives up to what i imagine in my head when i
read the genre title. poo!

robot voice.

if i start thinking about it too much all of my mp3 folders
start creeping into the "other" genre.

yeah, post-rock -- that just sounds fatalistic to me. people
who don't have any belief in the power of human creativity
to continually re-invent and re-vitalize ideas. rock will
never die, as much as i might want it to sometimes.

sublow = sub low (IE the bass is "lower than low" in pitch)
eski = short for eskimo, because it's "some cold shit",
allegedly.

As you say, it's just other words for grime.
