do you people get his brilliance?

i love all of his darker stuff, shame he went a bit too into
mainstream kinda sound lately. but luckly there's a lot of
awesome work he's done in the past..and i doubt he'll be
still in tech-house when he turns 50 (which shouldn't be too
long) and will start with the darker stuff again. woo.

well, i used to enjoy some jeff mills tracks years ago, when
i was a bit into the hard and minimalistic techno, like
steve stoll, pascal f.e.o.s. and such. but i don't know
which mills albums are great. rercommend me some please.

The Purpose Maker stuff is good. So is the Confidentials 1-4
EP. Metropolis is nice too.

yeah, metropolis is probably the one release that is the
most album alike. most of others are more like compilations.
and i love it coz it's dark :)

He smashes it live. His records don't really do him
justice.
He normally plays lost when he comes to London

his 1994-03 ax/pm catalogue is unmatchable when it comes to
techno.
nowadays he's just another brick in the wall.

favs: very ep [!!!], the other day ep, cycle 30, tomorrow

this is detroit techno music isn't it? I had Metropolis but
it got deleted. I seem to remember it being pretty awesome
sounding but lost touch.

his mixing can be good and sometimes absolutely shit.

i have this radio recording where he manages to mismatch
almost every record, and people pretend they dont notice..

i also think his track 'the bells' is extremely overrated.

with a name like "jeff mills" i imagine he's completely
shit.

he plays house music. yeah, fucking wonderful goran. how the
fuck do you dance to that shit, it's like 80 or 120 bpm or
something. whatever the fuck it is, it's about 100 bpm too
fucking slow.

fuck you, house music.

It is Detroit techno, Jeff Mills was a member of Underground
Resistance but he left the band soon. I'm not too keen on
his music but I love a lot of Detroit techno.

i totally agree.
during those years he released his most memorable stuff

nowadays he seems to release things which either go nowhere,
or sound like lesser versions of the tracks he made during
'93-'94

for my liking.

"and i doubt he'll be still in tech-house when he turns
50"

exactly. you've never heard him, you've never SEEN him, and
you've not read other posts in the thread. he makes
turntablism an artform, he's incredible to watch.

Oh, he's a turntablist? Then I'm interested.

I think turntablism was an artform long before he came
along.

By turntablism, you are referring to the sort of
sound that people like qbert, mixmaster mike and dj craze,
to name just a few (favourites), bang out?

browse label's websites in order to get stuff and simply
browse amazon or juno. Thanx for the idea !

his music has been referred to as house, techno, tech-house
and turntablism in this thread.

how anyone can mix up turntablism with the other genres is
beyond me; so what is the story then?

and I went on a rant about house music, i stand by what i've
said. it's boring, repetitive and too slow.

Jeff Mills??? Didn't he do "I like to move it move it"???
Didn't The Prodigy kick him out of the band cause he was too
dancey???? Fucking handbag house!!!! Jeff!!!! What sort of
name is that???? He should have an IDM name like X-10 or
summit!!!!

Rings of Saturn though, well tasty.

Don't generalize. Goran only said tech-house, and it's only
recent material that can be described as such. And for the
record, it was you who said house.

Mills has been one of the conspirators for mapping out the
sound of mid 90s techno, and when he djs he treats the
records as any (hiphop)turntablist would - like a tool.
Slagging him off because he doesn't play 200bpm tunes is
stupid.
