Famitsu scans

The only game that really matters, all upcoming video games
will be defined by how favorably they compare to MGS4, if
they compare favorably at all. LOL at Snake, I knew he was
going to be older but wow. He's approaching Sean Connery
levels, which of course Big Boss' look was initially based
on. Too bad his formerly uber-handsome looks won't be
gracing the cut-scenes anymore.

No real gameplay shots, but as we know, MGS excels at more
than just the technical or even the gameplay aspects. Cool
ideas hinted at here but more questions than answers. Looks
like there's a whole army of Metal Gears.

*shits pants at anything having to do with new MG*

BUT........

That thread was funny. Some really disappointed fans there.
I have to agree with some of them though - Playing an old
geezer version of Snake might be kinda retarded. Also, I'm
not necessarily in the mood to run out and get a new system
just to play that game. (though I probably will).

Starring Kris Kristofferson as snake

HA! So true!

Glotch- nah, playing as old Snake will not be retarded,
these guys are just reactionary dorks that are used to
controlling boring un-old characters. This can't be anything
but awesome. Controlling a Kris Kristofferson-facsimile is
going to be fun no matter how you slice it. Metal Gear fans
in general are passionate and stubborn and hard to please
and they'll warm up to the idea later.

Actually this kind of reminds me of Frank Miller's The Dark
Knight Returns, with an old, creaky Batman. That was
awesome. They can use this age thing.

I thought the concept was great. Seriously think of what
could be done with the story line with an older wiser snake.
One who has been through it all and seen alot.

It gives alot of oppurtunity in the storyline. You could
really take it anywhere. It is good to see progression
through videogames and i think this is the first series
where we witness an evolutionary change in the character.

Breaking ground left and right. I think that this is one of
the smartest moves in videogame history ever. Of course many
underage gamers will disagree but then again they are kids.
I welcome this as a small child welcomes a story before bed
time. The content is not held as high as having a brandnew
story when you are all tucked in.

:)

Agreed, it's a great concept. I love what they've done with
Snake, they've even turned flaky concepts like clones and
the adventures of the fathers of said clones into fabulous
games and bodacious stories. I can't wait to see where they
go with this. And with the character himself, I wonder about
the circumstances regarding his participation in... whatever
it is that's going on in MGS4. Maybe he's forced into it
literally, maybe he feels a duty or responsibility to get
back in the fold (maybe to help Raiden or Olga's son or
whoever), maybe he's having a late-midlife crisis and wants
some action, maybe some revenge, etc... lots of
possibilities. Lots of enemies still alive and loose ends.

(it's a credit to MGS that, during this nex-gen hype up
period, people aren't talking about its graphics or its
physics or the minimum system requirements, they're talking
about the characters and story and the actual gaming
universe Kojima's crafted... with every other game, this
stuff gets ignored during the hype-up)

The IGN boards have been having lots of fun with this-

It's for PS3, that thing is a beast. The graphics are going
to be beyond Godly, technically and artistically. And so is
the music if they're still using Norihiko Hibino and Harry
Gregson Williams.

David Hayter should sound gruffer than ever.

First trailor

Kind of uneventful but very pretty and questionful, it just
gives a glimpse of the warzone setting and shows off
Geriatric Snake, who is completely badass. The way he loads
the guns is saucy.

I got a Terminator-vibe, as in the future, with Kyle Reese
and Skynet and the killing and bedlam and fracas and whooha.
Can't wait to find out what the fuck happened.

For those that don't know, that little guy is Metal Gear
MK-II from Hideo Kojima's ''Snatcher'' for Sega-CD.

Glotch- this isn't going to be released for a while... dunno
when but might be 2007. :_-(

OK- Big Boss is long dead by the time MGS2 ended. Snake
killed Big Boss with a flamethrower around the time of Metal
Gear 2- Solid Snake. But yeah, maybe this isn't Snake... you
never know with Hideo.

There have been shots of Snake with full beard (mostly in
the art) and with no facial hair. Maybe the game skips
around time-periods and even characters... I dunno.

Brilliant trailer. Who did the music? It sounded a lot like
the dark ambient artist, Lustmord.

In a way, I wish I didn't read up on this and watch the
trailer, as it makes the current crop of games look utterly
pointless. I can't wait. :-)

yeah well ok how many guys have you 'killed' in the mgs
series that turned out to be not dead. Also, in
the artwork for MGS4 , besides a full beard snake there's what
looks like big boss (second from right to left in the link,
also notice that hi has a moustache) so it's likely that big
boss will make an appearance in this one.

True, but ''officially'', Big Boss is dead and was dead
during MGS2. I must be misunderstanding you, I don't see why
this old guy would be Big Boss, he didn't factor into MGS2
at all, directly.

Big Boss was about 30 in MGS3... that was in 1964... so to
be in MGS4, he'd have to be like, I dunno, 100? This can't
be him, especially since Otacon is referring to him as
Snake. There'd be no reason to refer to Big Boss as
''Snake'' 50 years after his mission as ''Naked Snake'', and
there'd be no reason for Otacon to chat with Big Boss as if
he was Solid Snake. But who the fuck knows?

(but maybe it IS Big Boss, and he's injecting that shit into
his neck to keep him alive, who the fuck knows?)

Personally I don't think Big Boss is going to be in this
game, except... as a dead guy. He's looking decidedly
corpse-ish in that art. He'll factor in more directly than
in MGS2 but I don't expect to control him or to fight him in
a battle or something. That would be creepy. But who the
fuck knows?

The moral of the post is, who the fuck knows?

There's a higher-res version of the trailer out now, maybe
I'll post it later if I find a good mirror.

reading from Gamespot, they commented on how Otacon didnt
seem like he aged much, but Snake did. They mentioned that
the genetic experiments might have caught up with Snake
(causing him to age, thereby forcing him to use that elixir
shits).

But I agree, who the fuck knows?!? I see MGS4 combining the
paranoia and mind fuckery of MGS2 with the intense action
and crossover plots of 3 (minus the forests and cheesedick
music during the last battle).

Wait a sec! Was the main character "Snake" in 3, the same
main character "Snake" in 2? Fuck, I'm confused. If I
remember correctly MGS3 Snake becomes Big Boss and is cloned
into 2 dudes, one of which becomes the main character of
MGS2 and purportedly MGS4. Is that correct?

Yep, one of the drawbacks of being a clone is fucked up
genetics... Snake is aging faster than a normal human. So
even though this might be, say, 10 years after the Big Shell
Incident (just guessing), he looks like he's 20 years
older.

(also, maybe the elixir has something to do with FoxDie,
remember that? It killed Liquid at the end of MGS1 (we
think), but Solid is somehow still going...)

You remember correctly, MGS3 ''Snake'', the guy you control,
is Big Boss. And then he's cloned into-

Liduid Snake
Solid Snake
Solidus Snake

...among others, maybe. Who the fuck knows?
