woke up with "death valley" in my head. Despite non-electronic band threads usually getting one or two token posts eg: "gay" or "i like this band" and then sinking out of site into the deep archives here, I thought I would create another thread about tthe grandparents of so much fun in the hope of introducing some smart 12-17year old afx fans.

saw them live. wow. thurston rubbing the guitar against his crotch, producing sweet, sweet walls of noise. such a brilliant band.
and i guess it's not a popular opinion, but my favorite album of theirs is murray street. i adore their newer work.

The guitar work in Hey Saturday Sun by Boards is very sonic like - A Thousand leaves era.

sonic youth are bang on....i dunno why you'd have the predisposed thought that liking them would be unpopular on this message board. surely the connection should be people with open minds rather than whether a sound was made on a twitty computer?

yup, Sonic Youth had an influence on the experimental scene in general, I'd say.. not just 'rock' bands. I love all their eras, for the most part, although I'd say A Thousand Leaves is probably the most impressive to me.

i wouldn't say they'd necessarily have any direct influence on electronic music....it is the same mentality behind it all those channeled through different things.

Awesome band! Been on an SY run the last few weeks. I just finally got EVOL (instead of my mp3 sourced cd I've had for years) and Dirty Deluxe and have been downloading plenty concerts...
EVOL certainly is a nightmare album for me, listened to it when I was in a bad place and even now it gives me a bad, non specific feeling. But it is very great. Tom Violence, Expressway to yr skull... Incredible
