i know i've posted a thread like this probably once before
atl east on this board, but today i feel lucky.

recommend me a label that will actually LISTEN to my music
(not warp or geffen or someone big)

what do you suppose? fast, slow? any particular tracks your

i'll probably keep it at four tracks long.

I'm preparing a demo for them in the not too distant future.
Untill I blow my own mind I'm not sending anything.

well i dunno that hcon88 track of yours is nice. sometimes
i've found that tracks i dislike are usually the ones
everyone else enjoys.

three, i'd say. four at the most. put your best song first
because a label will listen to that for maybe thirty seconds
and then throw out the demo (not because your music is bad,
just anyone's music in general).

don't waste time on fancy covers for your cd-r - chances are
it will create the impression that you've spent more time on
the cover than better could have on the music itself.

(I'm not even joking - it's fun to read the 'demo doctor'
and especially 'business end' articles in Sound On Sound
magazine - the last one features people from the music
business giving their opinions on sent in demos - they
almost always make some comment like the one above on
covers).

also write your name and contact info on the cd-r itself.

Well, I know people who just did blanket campains to every
label they listen to, that the music is geared towards. That
got both julian fane and bit meddler signed to planet mu,
and those are just the people I know.

And reguardless of what kind of music you want to publish,
always put your best song first. If the intro is too long,
edit it out. If they are interested they will ask you for
more, and then you can send them the one with the long
intro. The point of a demo is to attract attention, not bore
them to death. And if possible, use a mini-cd. If they see
that its going to be short, they will be less likely to put
it away in a drawer for later and forget about it

if you wanna send stuff to sublight I'd go for the slightly
harder and faster stuff since they are a breakcore label.
I'm also thinking of sending around a demo. I think I'll try
planet-mu.... yes I feel that lucky. but I do think it's a
good time for sending stuff to planet mu now. they just
released a shitload of stuff and now they won't release
allot of stuff. so I think that they will be searching for
some new artists or releases for the year 2006.... this is
all just guessing btw.

Listening to your music, I wouldn't bother sending a demo. I
mean I thought it was good, but there are thousands of
people making this sort of music out there, all sending
demos to various labels. You need to come up with something
200% awesome and original before you can even think of
sending demos off. Good luck, anyway.

If Venetian Snares can fart out 300 releases a year I think
Oddieblender, who I know has been making stuff for quite
some time, has earned his right to send in ONE demo...

Alot of stuff that does get released on 'proper' labels is
the most boring shit I have ever heard.. Oddio, I say you
polish up a couple of tracks and go for it. And if there's
no word, you can always try again later.

p.s. I just listened to 'The Morning Ism' .. good stuff :)

helix.
what did you write on the disk, was it a
package or just a cd. etc..?
-just contact info on the disc. just a cdr and a jewel

the few demos I sent I only wrote on the cd-r too but I did
write something like "hello, this is a demo" etc.

if they like what they hear, they'll only need your contact
info, though.

only two labels have responded to me as of this date - beta
bodega and lunaticworks.
