i know breakcore is a bit of a sensitive subject round here
but some people will appreciate this rather interesting

i just skimmed it - looks very pretentious. maybe to
some people it will be very interesting, so it is a good
link and a good thread. thanks!

seems very fucking elitist. i can't stand "scenesters" like
that; jesus christ, shit changes, adjust to it instead of
bitching.

although, i tend to suffer from this at times, so i guess
i'm a hypocrite!

I do agree with a lot of what it says, eletism aside the
content itself is fiarly accurate, his opinions about labels
and the reasons for their action are pure speculation
though, and in my opinion , wrong.

grand scheme of the universe.

Isn't this article by the guy who posted that Autechre
article several months ago and was subsequently chased off
the board?

''Obviously the traditional "IDM" scene was in a crisis''

One of the factors of any music that seems to invalidate it,
is when people start to wax intelectual, and justify it.
Unfortunately, IDM has set itself up for this from day one.
Its like the arguments were already written before the
music, making the music merely self serving in nature, and a
statement for the argument, as opposed to the argument being
a statement for the music. Its like a lot of these people
make this kind of music without a passion or reason for it,
aside from the fact that it is just a statement, and that
makes it shallow in my opinion. Its just as bad as making
music only for money. The irony, here, is people who make
music for the money, are honest about their motivations, and
the people who make music to prove a point usually aren't.

Breakcore is mad gay. It just sounds like the stuff Skint
used to release in '97-98, so who gives a fuck. I remember
thinking breakbeats had gotten tired already in '99.

I appreciate what he is getting at but there is no
objectivity in the writing at all. He is just a breakcore
apple polisher.

Jason Forrest has done some nice stuff. I think he's at his
best when kind of lets the breakcore go and goes beyond it,
but that could just be because I find breakcore really
boring. :)

do people think there is alot of bad blood between breakcore
fans and IDM fans? it kinda seems like the dislike u see
between trance and bass headz
pretty funny really

he's alright..saw him live not too long ago..entertainer but
lacks on the music part. dan dormoouse is much the same, i
saw him in his underwear so i had enough of him for a while
as well. im always in for the music and their stuff just
isn't my idea of good music. ofcourse they have their
moments but overal it's a bit weak.

overhere that is one and the same thing really. although we
usually don't get to see decent idm acts.

I don't think there is, really. although I don't see myself
as an "IDM fan" at all.

it's more that any form of fanboyism in any genre or
regarding any artist provokes a negative reaction.

but some of it is good.

thats kinda the deal with genres
it becaomes a genre cos one artists nails something new and
then that is appreciated and drawn upon untill said type of
music becomes saturated with similar stuff thus a genre is
born
theres a shit load of bad breakcore and bad idm and bad
anyother genre

"yes, yes, very impressive, how do I turn this off?" :)

Taff: Not having a go, but i did understand the point i
made. You just re-iterated my opinion to me. I agree with
you. I just don't like that article. It rubbed me up the
wrong way.

qrter: You kind of hit the nail spot on the head, i think
almost exactly the same thing about most of it.

The other thing that annoyed me about the article was that
he seemed to imply that it is/was the only subversive form
of music. Subversion happens on many levels, so i find
myself thinking what the hell his point actually is.

thats quite allright
the guy is an elitist fuck but its still interesting read

on a side note did anyone ever used to listen to dark
hardcore ? was kinda the precursor to drum n bass/jungle
tracks like long dark tunnell

Yeah, that was origin unknown and the track was called 31
seconds. I used to be a huge fan of early hardcore and
stuff. I think that track you are speaking of is actually i
quite early jungle track. It has little in common with dark
hardcore really. Also a very early example of what jungle
would become a track called Ltj bukems Atlantis, which is
from 1992. Great track got a lovely feel to it. You should
check it out.

: )
