Equipment??

Zia on 2001-05-26 22:39 [#00007264]

What kind of stuff does Richard use on his albums? I\'ve
read that he makes his own equipment, but I want to compose
music similar to his and I don\'t know how to make
electronics work. Anyway, is it possible to make drum and
bass, jungle, trance, etc. without a computer and
turntables? If so, what do I need?

well, the old group Kraftwerk made their own synthesizers
from old electronic organs.

i bet i am the only one here who has heard of them, they are
the freking pioneers of idm, without them, there would be no
Aphex or other idm.

And yes instead of answering the question you go blabbering
on about something else....

I think that you should go buy the nastiest computer you can
get your fingers on, and get the following programs

"fruityloops" from www.fruityloops.com

and "cooledit 2000" from www.cooledit.com

fruityloops is pretty cheap to register, and if you can get
and old version of cooledit you can register it illegally.

With a little pracise and imagination you can do anything
with those programs.

www.hitsquad.com is the next step, if you want more.
software synthesizers and stuff like that!

hope this helps you

respect to swai....
i have also heard that afx was making he's own
synthesizers...

SWAI from Denmark on 2001-05-27 14:52 [#00007303]

it is true that afx made his own synthesizers, but he also
said that computers today are so powerfull that its simply
pointless to go analouqe...

cylob and other rephlex artists feels like this 2!

thats cool, if everyone starts using soft-synths Ill be
heaps more original :)

just buy some analogue equipment and get someone to modify
it for you... or just use effects. I have an old Casio
CT-470 keyboard with really shitty drum sounds, I put it
through distortion and reverb and it sounds like the drums
from Acrid Avid Jam Shred and Cow Cud Is A Twin... or you
could always go for the soft synths, which most of the time
sound cold and hollow (ie. Rebirth's 808 bassdrum needs more
bass)
*OR*
Just download samples like everyone else... and use FT2

1. do not use fruityloops. it will make you go pow pow pow
powpow pow pow. very un-original.
2. do not download samples. record your own from your
surroundings and from the tv-set.
3. don´t be afraid of noises. they come in handy. and
fancy.
4. spread your songs all over the god damn earth.
5. start as you mean to go on. otherwise, you will sound
like shite. and people won´t listen because its shite.

Fruity Loops is very nice, and not so unoriginal. It now
supports VST, and you can do just about anything with it.
I've stopped using CuBase!
