Whos interested in listening to things they wouldnt normally listen to?

I was thinking of hosting 1 track per week or something
that we could all listen to and discuss. I think it could
provide interesting discussion and debate since we all have
different tastes.

Who would actually be interested in this?

I would also be taking suggestions for following weeks so
other members could display and discuss tracks that they
grew to love that most likely wouldnt be discussed here.

Aka no typical IDM

And not just me either. Like if DM does it one week he can
pass it on to someone that participated in that thread.
Therefore only people that willingly participate can go
along with it and we can learn about each others likes and
dislikes.

I would be interested. Anybody ever use the radio stations
on last.fm? I hear they're pretty useful for hearing obscure
stuff if the stuff you base it off is already super obscure.

great idea, so how are we going to host this track, is it
going to be a yousendit thing or does someone have some
webspace?

i'm in for this for sure.

can the song contain electronic components but not be
entirely electronic as per se; as in, stuff i think people
here wouldn't normally listen to? have some suggestions i
can think of; been listening to a lot of early experimental
stuff from the 70's/80's lately.

offline xf from Australia on 2005-09-13 08:00 [#01721876]

allright, i'll have a punt at this:

solidspace_moonra.mp3 (11:21, 9506KB)

two tracks from a very progressive-rock'ish album called
'olias of sunhillow' recently recommended to me, the first
solo album from jon anderson - of 'yes' fame (band that has
been around since the late 60's). i think it came out back
in 1976; incredibly experimental for its time.

the whole album has a flowing theme and as a result is
enjoyed much more listening from start to end, but these
tracks definitely stuck out to me on my first few listens.

(if any mods have an issue with me linking, just let me
know, i'll remove it!).

It could be death metal for all i care. The idea is to get
away from the norm that we are flooded with at this site.
Usually we get our 'usual' releases and then we get spam
that very closely reflects that music.

I've noticed overtime that more and more members are
branching out into various other things and more and more it
is being discussed here.

I think yousendit limits the number of downloads and the
duration of time. I would like 1 full week somewhere. Aside
from that we should have a unique way to tag the thread such
as [mus] "track title/artist name" so people would instantly
know that it has to do with the ideas in this thread.

After discussion the torch bearer would pass on the torch to
a user that participated in the discussion and that user
carries on. Everyweek you would have a new track from a
different member and could cover alot of ground.

So in review we need a hosting idea and a tagging idea for
threads.
