good track, but i like the production of it more than the
track itself :)

i think i've told you this already : you and staz are great
analords, but i hope this is just an acid period in
your....career ? - and these acid experiments will help you
develop your own styles.

Thanks, but I'm not sure really. I kind of dislike the whole
dsp/idm style where you don't do things manually.

I like simple electro and acid where the drums and grooves
are stepsequenced and the focus is on writing good melodies
and nice buildups/breakdowns.

As opposed to focusing on making your vsti/software
generating "übercool" new sounds and sometimes even
sequence them for you too.

As if that's not all,you can just run it through
livecut/msp/glitch.exe afterwards and sound "innovative and
intelligent"

I'm not saying I will always make acid, but I will probably
always make something "retro/electro".

You can't just do that.

You can hear it when someone skillfully applies effects to
their music. MSP can be a fucking amazing tool for just
about anything you like, not just effects! I've been playing
more and more inside it, made my own sequencer and own
effect boxes and such, and while I haven't really managed to
write a full song with it yet, it's so much more fascinating
to work through than anything else, even Reaktor. It's
pretty fucking heavy to learn, though. Supercollider is also
pretty interesting but I suck at it and I run a PC system so
whatever.

I acknowledge that there's a lot of "IDM" wank out
there that just relies on generation from sloppy algorithms
and drums that sound like farts and belches, but there are
so many ways of creating music, and when it comes down to
the basic, isn't it just the end result that actually
matters? You can still be as manual as you wish even though
you employ more advanced techniques than just simple
step-sequencing and basic automation. Just listen to
Squarepusher and Aphex!

All in all, in my opinion, you shouldn't worry about
restraining yourself to just that sphere of making music. As
you progress, you will crave introduction into new
techniques of music making because just having one style of
doing stuff will just make you feel a bit too constricted
after a while.

I type too much.

Yes, of course my style will advance as time passes by, I'm
just ruling out the possibility of me making any "serious
idm".

staz : no offence man.

i didn't mean to be...negative or sth. hmm...it's like
ceephax - i always wonder if he doesn't get bored with his
acid setup, the same for years ? don't you ?

"writing good melodies and nice buildups/breakdowns. " yeah,
i agree, but "focusing on making your vsti/software
generating "übercool" new sounds" - it's not my approach,
rather trying various instruments, searching for interesting
sounds and trying to put them in some (interesting) order.

I haven't made acid for years, so I don't know? I cover a
lot more ground than just acid, so I can't really relate to
that. And so does Ceephax, to be frank, so I don't know if
he's a relevant point? Ugh, whatever. Assumptions are
stupid.

It's all about what the maker enjoys.

"Is there really something called idm ? "

1] there is no idm. it's just a silly name. those
journalists ! if you want to make some "serious idm" = you
might be saying you want to make music that's a mixbag of
all warp artists

2] intelligent ? what is intelligent music ? dance ? can you
dance to all autechre music ?

3] meh

4] jav

5] yes, there is

6] no, there isn't

bring to their community.
