A decision!

Some of you might remember this little fable about me
having a record out in the near future.

Well...

having had it finished for the last 8 months and having had
very little comtact from the people who are supposed to be
releasing it. I have decided that i think i am going to go
back to the drawing board a little.

I am thinking that i will take this as a sign to move on and
not release the record as it is at all. I have been really
putting things on hold for this and still to no avail.

This leaves me with certain things, one of which being
guilt. I got a fine bunch of remixes for this and i hassled
people about having them done in time and this appears to be
for no reason now.

So i will make an open apology to you all about this. I
really wanted this to happen and i wanted to give some
people some exposure, even though it would be limited. I
will however keep to my promise of getting them out at some
point, if i can. I owe you guys this much.

I think personally i will remix the tracks to a slightly
clearer and nicer fashion and demo bomb people. Before that
i will make a last big push for this to happen.

Yours sincerely,
Skink

that's not nice of the people who were supposed to release
your record.

I think I missed this at the time - who were these people?
besides just wanting to know what happened, it's always good
to spill the beans about shifty record company types, how
minor they may be.

They aren't so much shifty but obviously didn't realise how
much i want it to happen. It's probably just a case of the
fact thatit is a new record company just starting out.

It is just very frustrating.

They are called Altstate records.

Altstate.

Notice how it hasn't been updated in a very long time or at
all.

Well the guy in charge never tells me anything and he keeps
forgetting to send me the contracts. He also says stuff
about mastering and design and things. They all seem to be
empty promises.

I am going to send him an e-mail. Telling him of this new
plan.

I'm sorry, that does sound shifty - "forgetting" to send
contracts, etc.

although luckily not in the "taking your money and run" way.
:)

Better off you didnt work with him then. Its better to work
with people that like your music and direction and actually
treat you with respect and understanding.

Well, this is the strange thing. We do get on and we like
each other.
And really like each others tunes. When ever i play a show
somewhere up in London i get a really good responce from a
few people. With this in mind i don't really understand why
this is happening.

Lack of orginization or something i suppose? Perhaps his
heart really into it all or perhaps life has picked up its
pace on him allowing no time.

Holy drop shadow effect, what a 2 year old holding page
website. You know (that place well) remix that I DID, even
though I don't think anyone was going to use it it as, to be
frank, the world isn't ready, but that's one of my favourite
things I ever did, with the nice original Skink melody.
Sorry to hear about these fairweather bastards raising your
hopes then letting you down. KILL THEM, is my advice.

AH, well i m really glad that you got something out of it!

I don't think i will kill them but i will however, send him
an email to see if this is worth doing or not.

even if you like them, why would you ask them if it's a good
idea or not?

you haven't signed anything, they're not doing anything for
you, you do what you like.

where are Alt State records based?

i've had experience with people having plans (more like
dreams) bigger than they can deliver, it's very frustrating.

Let us know how things get on :)

there's a big difference in letting them know and asking
them if it's a good idea.

Well technically i didn't say i was going to ask them if
it's a good idea. I was going to ask them if it is worth
waiting or not.

sounds to me like they've been bullshitting you long enough
- why would they suddenly change now?

I'm just saying that if people start saying stuff like they
keep forgetting to send contracts it's best to step away and
try to find other people. I'm sure they're just a few guys
who want to set up a good recordlabel and that they intend
noone any harm at all, but they should be upfront with you
at least. they probably just don't have any money, which is
fine, but just say so.

I mean, what if you ask them and they say, just wait another
4 months, just like they've kept you waiting before?

like I said, they mean no harm, but in the meantime you're
just standing still and nothing is happening.

Indeed, what i will do is draft an e-mail tonight. Telling
them what i think about the situation and asking them what
the deal is.

I really need to get this out somehow, i think the tracks
are still good they could be better. I fi rework them
however it will take some time.

When i know i can move forward. Thanks for listening I shall
work on an e-mail now.

If anyone has anything they would like to add or has
anything the would like to ask, feel free!

annoys me to see people being that vague and bullshitty. :)

But my courteousness gets in the way sometimes.

Preview if of course anyone wants to hear it.

I will put one together with the remixes too.

just to weigh in with a "benefit of the doubt" for the
shifty label people, here's an anecdote: this year i
corresponded with an artist who planned a release on label
x, and the artist said he didn't even know if the cd would
come out or not, his communication with the label was
non-existent, they gave him no information and he was
extremely frustrated and suggested that the cd would likely
not come out at all. nevertheless, the cd did come out 4 or
5 months later.

who knows if your label guys will get their shit together.
all you can do is stay positive and hope for the best.
here's hoping it happens!
