NASA has just release the most detailed satillite images of
Earth, ever.

fucking amazing pics, the jpegs are OK...i downloaded the
20+ meg tif - you can zoom in close and its still crisp.

you have to register to get the really (100+meg)massive
files.

NASAs site is one of the biggest on the net. They have tons
of mad images from space.

I found a vid on there the other week, it starts with a shot
of the earth from space, zooms in, zooms in, keeps zooming,
until it is right up close to the 'Hollywood' sign in
calafornia. Incredible, but kinda creepy...BOC style baby
;)

Can my computer even HANDLE a 400 MB picture file?
Seriously, can it? That's HUGE!

Ophecks, you'd probably be able to go grab a lunch while you
wait for it to load unless you have a shedload of RAM.

Uhm.... 15-20 minutes once it's downloaded maybe? That would
be my guess.

Eh, that's not so bad. First I must concentrate on the
mission at hand, downloading those disgustingly huge pics.

Took 45 minutes for me with a 64k adsl conn.

He's talking about viewing it not downloading it though. And
that doesn't seem like too horribly long if it only took 45
minutes. I'm gonna get it soon.

How are you guys getting the really big files. When I try
to down;oad them I get a message:

"The file you have selected is approximately 245.94 MB. At
this time we are providing access to these files on a
restricted basis"

I've emailed them asking for access. Is that I have to do?
Did anyone else get that message?

Maybe all of us aphexers are overloading them and they think
we're a cult hellbent on destroying the earth but we don't
have a map of it.

Not yet, but we will... we just need their permission to
download a map. Then... DESTRUCTION!!!!

OMG THaTS FUNNY AS HELL

I just found this page thru a friend like 2 days b4 this
topic was posted

what a coincidence

OH BTW

my friend made a SWEET ASS APHEX CLOUD LOGO over the huge
Globe pic

he tried sending it to .nu but they havnt responded/posted
it yet

wow its a really nice job too

btw i nab'd most of the pics on that site,,,a few hundred

btw i emailed them like 4 days ago, stil havnt gotten ne
thing yet on allowing ftp / whatever access to the huge
TIFFS

btw

tiff = uncompresed (whihc is why they load so fast, but are
much larger)
compairedto jpg = hella compression but take soem time to
load

i just converted all my tiffs to jpg, not losing ne qualiity
really.

btw

if anyone gets an email back from them let me know

and who said somehting about registering with them to get
the large tiffs? i ahvnt seen ne thing on that yet
