Yep, some of the happiest people I know have a really naive,
innocent view of the world.

would you call people with that view "stupid" or "daft" or
other slightly degrading things (not in front of them)?

that's something you're born with i would think..hard to
change that once you're in your 20's..

i wouldn't call them anything, it's their bussiness..but, if
they intentionally try not to think about it, so it doesn't
make them miserable that would be ok, but if they truly
belive that everything is smashing, then i would call them
silly.

I just get the impression that people normally think
"naïve" people are stupid...

no, I don't think so, and I don't think naïve people are
stupid. I just get the impression others do.

maybe that's just me...

It would depend on the person. There are a lot of people in
academia that I would consider very bright, but have quite a
self-deluding view of the world that makes it easier for
them to cope with. Then there are people who are
stupid and just have a saccharine-sweet view of the world
purely because they're too stupid to see the bigger
picture.

There's also the aspect of what sort of life they've lead.
Streetwise kids who've grown up fast tend to have quite an
accurate, bleak outlook on things, people who've been
wrapped in cotton wool all their lives have a nicer idea of
the world. In both those cases, intelligence doesn't really
enter into it.
