any big elliott smith fans here?

i absolutely adore XO and From A Basement On A Hill (to a
lesser extent). I've always had the other 3 albums but never
quite got into them as much as XO.

Also, does anyone have any bootlegs of his concerts?

it sticks out like a sore thumb, compared to the feeling and
vibe of the rest of the album. pisses me off.

he is dead

and it looks like his bitch of a girlfriend stabbed him, as
opposed to it being suicide. the whore.

i remember the day he died, i listened to XO five times
after getting home from school. :(:(:(:(

there's a lot of evidence against her, not least the fact
that it'd be almost impossible to bring yourself to commit
suicide by stabbing yourself in the chest --- with one clean
stab, no first-attempts

"not least the fact that it'd be almost impossible to bring

and you would know this how? :)

from common sense, man.

think about it, puncturing the breastplate and cutting deep
enough to kill one's self: it'd take a hell of a lot of
force and absolutely no hesitation whatsoever.

the last part of my sentence "with one clean stab" was also
very important.

I love his acoustic work - "roman candle" and the
self-titled one. I don't like the real 'band' ones.

I didn't like what I heard of the last cd-set - the
electronica doesn't seem to work very well, I think.

I'm a huge fan. Yes I think the sparser the better for him
though, his overly produced stuff loses some of the intimacy
hes good at, i think. I have to say XO is good but suffers
from the overproduction a bit... Either/Or is his pinacle,
its so hushed and lofi.

haven't given too much attention to his last album but
either/or is my favourite (so far, at least).

particularly 'tomorrow tomorrow', reminds me a bit of the
beach boys.

only half way through so far.

Roman candle kicks arse. all the soothingness and tape hiss
and extraneous noise tops his overdone stuff by far.

out of interest, what's the track you see as the bad track
on XO?

my personal favourites are pitseleh and waltz #1, and, of
course, i didn't understand. i really like bled white as
well, with it's lennonish piano thru a leslie speaker :)

i'm unsure which track doesnt fit the album, they all sound
great to me. somtimes i think amity is a bit heavy handed.

ey-up!

yes, Amity. comes crashing in, destroys my ears and the
whole feeling of the album. totally out-of-place imo.

"I didn't understand" is certainly one of my favourites, if
not my favourite track on the album. Beautiful lyrics and
harmonies..... perrrrrfect.

interestinly, amity was one of the two songs to be recorded
at a different studio from the rest of the album (the other
song was baby britain).

such as needle in the hay, waltz #2

those two songs sound much louder to me.. i figured it was
just my mp3s, but.. there ya go.

i'm not just talking about the fact that there's distorted
guitars and all, just the actual volume of the tracks in
comparison with the rest.

I got a couple Smith albums on CD, and it's wonderful
stuff... I am into melody and well written songs and
harmonies as much as any IDM stuff. Shame he died. I'm
interested in knowing what his pre-Either/Or albums sound
like. Also, I want to get Figure 8 next probably. Is that
as great as XO?

Erm, there were some vids of him playing live either on his
official site or "Sweet Adeline". They're in quicktime
format. I downloaded a couple, if you can't find em i'll
stick em on the ipod tonight and send tomorrow.

it has some great, great songs on it. but you can tell by
the production that they didn't let elliott's spirit help.
