Since Alan Wilder left in 94/95 they are a trio. Martin
Gore, Dave Gahan and Andy Fletcher.

For their recent (well... 98 and 01) tours they have used
additional musicians on their live shows. One on drums and
one on keyboards.

enh... it's one thing to be able to continue creating music
but i think they peaked out 15 years ago. ya just can't
compare the new to the old i guess. rock on sprockets!

no, you can't, that's right, yeah. you just can't.

exciter was a very good collab with....err...Mark Bell ?
we'll see what this new album brings.

besides, it is a different line-up. Wilder was a huge
influence on their style 15 years ago, with his skillz and
ideas. dm became something quite else after he left.

oh, blah, you just like their music or not, easy as that.

[and i hope the lyrics won't be too cheesy...and that those
tracks by Gahan will be any good, cause his solo album was
so shit]

This album went beyond ALL my expectations...VERY GOOD
indeed.
A return to form IMO.

I recommend the vinyl-version of the record for those of you
who doesn't like today's usually "over-mastered" cds. This
records is really loud and toghether with the rather noisy
production it gets quite tiresome for the ears...

Read about it here

I miss Alan Wilder, though this record has grown a bit since
the beginning... (but with a Wilder-production, it could
almost have been good all the way?) Gahan's tracks are
actually some of the best - Gore's tracks were he also sings
are extremely embarrasing. Maybe I'm buying the
vinyl-version in the coming week.

how does one pronounce Depeche Mode?

is it "Day-peche mode" or "Duh-peche mode" ?

or something other than those two..?

the record is excellent, they're in great form after a flop
imo. i went to their concert in chicago on tuesday and it
was one of my favorite shows ever. it was more 'rock-ish'
than their exciter tour was which is excellent.

Playing The Angel gets a fair 3/5 out of me - or 4/5 in
relation to Depeche Mode's overall works. It's really
quality material, and very Depeche Mode.

My problem with them resides in their lyrics. I mean,
they've always went for the pessimistic and apocalyptic
message, but this time it's all about Angels and God and the
Sinner In Me - just some blatant Christian preaching. I'm
sorry, but you're gonna have to give me more than my average
televangelist if you want to appear dark and sinister.

The songs, though, are thoroughly catchy and the beats are
micromanaged to pan the whole soundscape. I did prefer Mark
Bell in Exciter, but this time they sound more 80's - and
consequently more Depeche Mode. The new vocalist, though,
sounds wrong.

BTW, I _totally_ agree with the compression issues on the
CD, it's really way too buffed up. That was my first thought
when I listened to it: "Something isn't right."

i think that depeche is a french word. something to do with
hurry up, if you tell someone to hurry up, you say
depechez-vous or something. that is formal though, i can't
remember how to say it informally. anyway, it would
technically be pronounced "day-peche" i think. then just
"mode". i say daPESH mode though because for god's sake,
this is america.

always wanted to look like andy fletcher. ubercool. got to
wear a tan leather jacket and CHiPs sunnys just to top it
off.

i wouldn't mind L. gore's voice either.

Martin Gore on "One Caress"- that's one of their best
tracks! A really strong song and 27-man orchestra... (and
Wilder & Flood in the control room, couldn´t be better)
