Valentin Silvestrov- Requiem for Larissa

Anybody ever hear this? It's pretty under-listened-to, this
guy doesn't even have a wikipedia page. :_-( A visionary
read me like a book last week and gave me this album,
knowing I'm a big Arvo Part-ist and Alfred Schnittke-er. I
really love it, I mean it's probably one of the top 10
musics I've ever heard so I have to post it, some people
here (1 or 2 at most, typically) could dig it.

It was a tribute for his recently de-lifed wife, and it's
really powerful. Huge percussion, spine chilling choirs,
pianos the size of houses, etc. It opens insanely dark and
makes me feel like a huge portal has opened up over my house
and is swallowing the city, but gradually the music gets a
bit more hopeful. Very uncomfortable listen but it's not too
hopeless once you make it past the initial onslaught. It
ends bleak though. You can't escape the infinite sorrow, or
something like that.

Amazon has samples but they're not telling at all, 1 minute
clips from stuff like this just don't work. Just read the
reviews and try this download instead. I like what this
Amadeus888 wimp said-

This is just my personal opinion: a literally "terrible"
Requiem. Listening to this music, I feel as if a dark black
sticky cloud that I cannot shake off has enveloped me. If
this was Silvestrov's intention, then this piece of work is
successful. And one more thing: the 5th movement is
beautiful, like a ray of sunshine that penetrates the
darkness.

LOL, pussy. And he gave it a 1/5, the other two reviewers
''got'' it. He's right about the 5th movement though,
stunning beauty surrounded by icky death. This work was
nominated for a Grammy but don't worry, it didn't win.
Anyway, yeah, if you're into Part and Schnittke and Ligeti
and the like, you should hear this.

Well Jay you really got my interest going in this one. I am
real real big on people that can get an overwhelming feeling
or emotion based on listening to music.

Alot of music mowadays is just filler and doesnt ever
develop into anything regardless of what fanboys and artists
say. There is a very small percentage out there that
actually does spawn a variety of different emotions and
atmospheres.

This obviously caught me when you typed that up because both
you and the "pussy" reviewer (lol) felt similar things. I
would go as far to say that was his intention although i
know absolutely nothing about Valentin myself. This is the
first time i have ever seen the name.

Are you sharing this by chance? I would like an oppurtunity
to hear it in full.

Thanks for the bump marco! Thanks for the review and
thoughts jay!

I was right, only 1-2 interested people! Thanks the bump,
Tridenti is good maligned people. Virgy- the entire thing is
just a click away, click on ''this download''. I'm also
sharing a bunch of stuff by him on soulseek, second or third
best contemporary composer I've heard, although his music is
kind of alienating. I used the term ''pussy''
affectionately, I can see some people being turned off, his
stuff is extremely austere.

Is that Luba?

Ah yes! Our dearest Luba. I wonder if i have enough "game"
to steal her from my favorite photographer. I would like to
try. haha!

I will have this download in around 12 minutes. Thanks for
sharing. I didnt even realize that it was a download. Boy oh
boy! :) I eagerly await this file!

I will post results here.

LOL@this topic here again

Yeah the first one takes my breath away, but in a bad way.
The whole first two movements in general make me feel
uncomfortable, without resorting to atonal dins or anything
too far out there. And it goes from the inkiest blackness to
the most beautiful beauty, somehow. Wonder of wonders.

Matvey, if you want it I can upload it again. But I'm too
lazy to do so if there is no interest.
