where do you keep/store your music?

ive had this problem ever since i can remember - i buy some
kind of case or something and all is well and good - then
all of a sudden i need more its a vicious cycle i
tell you..

do you every sell/disgard stuff to make room? or do you just
keep cramming more and more cds/vinyls/cassettes/whatever
in?

the pile is getting bigger and bigger.

for me, its my cds that take up the most room, i have about
300 of them and the case i have only holds about 250 - so i
find myself either selling or storing (read: locked away in
a bin never to be seen again) to make room

on the bookshelf
stacks and stacks of cd, by mostly aphabetical order, idm
first

lps and 12" in an old wooden box

7" in a little carboard box

tapes, used to be in a big cardboard box, now they are sold
and in a small plastic container

yes i have sold many millions of cds/tapes/records and dont
regret much of it

Haven´t sold anything yet, though I really should cause I
got some doubles... I have ripped all my old cds and stuffed
them away in the basement, I never play them anyway (nor the
mp3´s :/ ). To make more room in my data archives I´m
also moving stuff from CDR to DVD-R - makes a lot of
difference!

well, it's kinda good system really..if im looking for a
particular album i must browse through the whole pile and i
sometimes find stuff i didn't even know i had, so that's
splendid.

combo, you could maybe send it back and exchange it for
something else when that happens..

nah, never - but nowadays I almost never play any of my 650

own tracks, digitalized 12"´s,
beatport/bleep/uploud-purchases and other interesting
internet findings... ;)

I have always bought a great deal of CDs; I have several
plastic carousels or towers, and I organise the discs, which
is--yes--weird but kind of adorable. I alphabetise them by
artist's name, then release order. That's just the way I
catalogue them mentally, so it was natural for me to
externalise it. I memorise most of the details about the
releases, too, so I don't need to group them by label or
genre or whatever; I pretty much know each record like a
friend or at least an acquaintance.

I originally bought two black conti board CDs shelves from
MFI many years ago which held most of my CDs at that time.
(see small tall black shelf, top, holds appx 280 albums)

As my collection grew I wanted more of the same shelves but
by then MFI stopped doing them so I had to improvise. I
bought a load of conti board planks, took one of the bought
units, then removed the shelves and added the new planks to
replace them. And put in bits of the old shelves to work as
supports. (see large wide black shelf, top, holds appx 2000
albums)

The collection grew some more and I had to get some more
shelves. This time I just made my own out of new conti board
planks. (see bottom pic, holds appx 650 albums)

A couple of months ago I decided I needed more again.
However making my own was out of the question due to
arthritis so this time I bought 3 prefab ones from Argos.
(see beige sheves, top, holds appx 500 albums total)

i use a cd shelf sort of like the one xceque has (nowhere
near as big, though). those are the best for organized
types like me because you can easily move them around and
keep them properly in order. so i have this shelf thing
almost full (i added an additional shelf on top of it with
some extra wood), i moved my compilations to a separate
shelf in my closet, i put the ones i don't listen to in a
box with a lot of other miscellaneous cd's and cd-rs... i
recently sold off about fifty awful cds that i really didn't
want. i keep my best LP's in a crate (the bulk of my
collection is in storage somewhere, though) and my 7"s in a
little cardboard box.

In the hard disk too. Even if I format, I know it's still
avaiable on Soulseek or Emule, whatever, for eternity. I
never buy cds. I don't want to give sesterces for SACEM

I keep my gramophone records in an ikea shelf (need bigger
one) and compact digital discs in a bookshelf that came with
the flat. random records lie on a different shelf and/or
beside my turntables

I just throw them onto my dresser via a network of both
horizontal and vertical storage racks, and the less good
stuff on another shelf. I keep all the cases and artwork and
I'm careful to not leave anything lying around. But they're
very dusty, I just rip CDs, eventually burn the rip to a
data disc, and barely touch the actual CD again unless I'm
going somewhere.

Here's a pic of them a year and a half ago-
