My mum's in critical care in a hospital. We're not sure what's wrong, or if she will survive.
I'm honestly not looking for sympathy. I don't know. I'm just doing anything to distract myself from thoughts.
Has anyone been through this here?

thoughts going out mate, thats real sad :(
uh.... do anything to take your mind off. write some music, read a book, just keep busy, and showing that you care is probably the most important thing you can do.

or if she will survive
shit Robert is it really that bad!? from what I'd heard it was only a blood clot and they were keeping her in to monitor her...oh my god I'm really sorry to hear that. Can we meet up some time to go and see her in hospital?

The blood clot has spread. It's critical now, and there also may be an infection. To be honest, I don't understand what is going in exactly medically.
I did get to talk to her today, and she recognized me.
Thanks people.

That's almost too sucky. Not much to say except this topic makes me feel physically ill. Let us know what happens. I'd say people have been in worse shape than her and somehow pulled through, so who knows.

Its hard to overcome or destract yourself from the feelings you are having because its almost as if your soul is tied to your parents the closest.
Dont try to get your mind off of it. Be with her as much as they let you. Be by her side and let her know you love her more than she could imagine.
I'll be praying for you and your family

Thanks a lot Virginpusher, those words really helped. I know exactly what you mean about the feeling of connection; it's at a time like this that I know how increadably deep our bond was. It's hard to put into words.
I feel like a coward though, because however much I want to stick by her side, I can't bear it. When you're used to seeing someone so active, it's so strange to see them lying there with tubes and monitors beeping away.
I did get to talk to her though, and she recognized me...that meant a lot.
Your prayers are also appreciated; whether God exists or not, believing in Him right now is proving to be the most helpful thing mentally.
Thanks a lot.

that's awful.
my mother has been seriously ill a few years back (and fully recovered) and all I can say is, even if it's scary for you, visit her as much as you can.
it really helps her if you're there.
hope she gets better soon.

Having someone hooked up to a machine to stay (partially) alive is horrible. If it gets to the point where you find out that she can't be normal again don't hesitate to pull that plug. It may seem harsh or cruel, but when the only thing keeping someone alive is a memory and a machine - it's time to end it. Especially if they are in pain, death will be a welcome release.

"it really helps her if you're there."
Thats the best thing posted in this thread. If she recognized you then that means she knows whats going on.
I bet she would love to have you at her side. I know if i was in that position i would need my loved ones there.

I understand what you mean, but I don't think it's that kind of condition. It's a blood clot that spread from the legs to the lungs (I'm not sure how that works), which can be fatal, and there's also an infection.
Yeah, you're right. I shouldn't stay at home.

And i dont want to turn this into a religious thing but as i am a christian i do pray alot and especially for those in need. I have people pray for me too and i have seen good results alot of times.
It reminds me of: Mt 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
I figure that it cant hurt to try right? I will have some people join me in this. Does that guarentee a miracle? no but its what i personally believe in.
ok ill shut up now -----------
But i can understand the pain. I have a deep love for my mother and this thread made me think about what if. I was overcome by sadness because i love her so that i could feel a small % of what you do.
If you feel the need please email me anytime....

My friends mom died recently, she fell into sickness right out of the blue. My other friends dad one day just died, it was a very rare form of cancer that is most commonly found in africans or something like that.

try to do little things for her, like taking her flowers, or reading her something she might like. definitly support her and stay by her side! this must be horrible for you. a mother's love is something special.
i never really know what to say to things like this but this is very sad so i feel compelled to write in here. saying something like "good luck" seems so meaningless. i truly hope she recovers. don't forget to keep your spirits up.
:)!!

i hope it all goes well for your mum, CS2x.
This thread makes me think a bit about my relationship with my mother...i don't really like her - but if she fell seriously ill and went to hospital, i think i would visit her and try to be with her as much as i could. no matter what the past was.
