Sean Paul's Get Busy is an absolute must for any
part, though hip hop really isn't my bag. Above all else I'm
into trance and house of all types with a minor interest in
IDM.

well IMHO all hip hop is total crap so this is a meaningless
thread anyway. There is no classic hip hop so just close
this and lets move on to discussing Boc or Aphex Twin.

I'm only 17 and live in shitty London so all I know is what
the Uk scene shows me and what I hear out of the
ghetto-blasters of chavs who try to mug old ladies. I
dislike hip hop immensely and am sorry if I wasn't alive in
the good ol' days when it wasn't associated with gun
culture. I'm sure you know a lot better hip hop than me so
why don't you suggest some?

offline redrum from the allman brothers band (Ireland) on 2005-07-29 07:41 [#01678283]
Points: 12878 Status: Addict

i'm a teenager too, and grew up in a completely desolate
countryside where the closest neighbour was a 5-minute walk.
You're in London. You really don't have any excuse; saying
hiphop is bullshit because what you've heard is bullshit is
just like someone hearing afx and saying it's total crap
because they heard scooter and, justifiably, came to that
conclusion about his music.

quasimoto - low-class conspiracy
a tribe called quest - sucka nigga / steve biko (stir it
up).... basically anything from midnight marauders actually
big L - 8 iz enuff, put it on

there are some suggestions, combo.

yeah but I have made no effort at any point in my life to
find out anything about hip hop music or its origins and
listen out for some of the classic tracks because it's not
something I like. I was merely suggesting some tracks that
are played at parties over here whether they're crap or not.

if you have absolutely no idea of what hiphop really is, and
hate whatever shit commercial rap you've heard so far in
your life, then why come into this thread and start acting
the cunt.

why not instead make another goodbye thread and leave for
real this time.

yeah, so he has origins in hip hop but that post by tftp
didn't contribute anything, at least I've given you
something to talk about thanks to my unique stance against
hip hop

you talk more about music you have a "stance against" than
you do music you like

i was merely stating that if you like those fast bits and
wicked beats you would probably dig the same from
"proper"old school hip hop, not the radio or shit released
today.

never say never

old school hip hop is the only way to go... some public
enemy, bdp, eric b. and rakim, nwa, ice t, a tribe called
quest, jungle brothers, de la soul, audio 2, digital
underground, beastie boys... and lots more...

hip hop in the past like... 15 years has sucked really...
commercial hip hop at least.

seek out some underground stuff as well... like scarub, mf
doom, mad lib, mad villian and all that good stuff...

basically stay away from most of what has been suggested to
you already in this thread.

talib kweli / hi-tek - move something
quasimoto - sparkdala

airborn audio - brights lights
nas - you know my style
the pharcyde - devil music
antipop consortium - 3 digit wiz
beastie boys - hey ladies
buckshot lefonque - music evolution
the isolationist - we rap so fresh
blackalicious - a to g
kool keith - fine girls
run dmc - my adidas
afrika bambaataa - planet rock
gang starr - full clip
prefuse 73 - hide ya face
brainwash - break it down
medaphoar - serious
wildchild - wonder years
finsta bundy - feel the high part 2

that's stuff that popped to my head immediatly

whoever said hip hop sucks in this thread gets a punch in
the teeth.

anyhow:
Notorious B.I.G.- One More Chance
Nas- Memory Lane
Pete Rock and CL Smooth- the Wig-Out
Dr. Dre- Nuthin' but a G Thang
X-Clan- Funkin' Lesson
the Fugees- Zealots
Ghostface Killah- Fish (or maybe Daytona 500)
Raekwon- Ice Cream

gotta second the recommendation of just about anything off
of Midnight Marauders, but for me the two best tracks are
Lyrics to Go and Electric Relaxation

as far as ae and their hip hop influences go... cfern was
playing in my cubicle one day while i was going over a
project with one of my co-workers... he's heavily into
underground and old school hip hop... and while we were
talking about this project... he was head nodding and going
"awwwe yeeeeah" to the beats and all... i asked him if he
liked it... and he wanted me to burn more like this for
him... so to the schooled listener... the hip hop influences
are apparent.
