How do I phrase this properly....?
What do you think is the most "normal" sounding Aphex
song....I mean, which song sounds the most mainstream...like
a person who had never heard of Aphex wouldn't think it was
too out of place on their local radio station.....

Windowlicker possibly, and flim...

Also his older work, is a more accessible sound, less fucked
up effects, less distortion, more melody... Like selected
ambiant works 83-?, and possible surfing on sine waves
(polygon window)

But generally, Aphex isn't very inaccessible to me... I like
all his shit instantly!

Come to Daddy seems kind of mainstream... but still
completely insane... I think it's just the heavy metal
guitar.

I agree that Polygon Window probably fits with the
"mainstream" more....

I'de agree that select ambient works 85-92 is his most
accessible stuff, therefor making it the closest to 'pop'

Come To Daddy I think, is the one that has more cross-over
appeal...

Flim, with it's Charlie and the Choco factory tune is very
accessible...

Alberto is so beautiful no-one could resist it...

Taking Control takes generic beats and pulverises your brain
in a new way...

Windowlicker, aside from the fucked up little effects now
and again, is a sound that was all the rage in the late
90's...

IZ-US is pretty popish...

All his older work in general i think...

Later when the drugs went to his head the stuff is much
different...

Talking about inaccessibility, Ventolin is one no one i know
can take because of the high pitched sound in the
beginning... I love the Mother***ker!

I think the RDJ album is the nearest to pop, but
windowlicker itself is almost pure pop

Funny, I remember I was reading some journal on a web site
not long ago, and in one entry, the guy refered to the
chances of him settling down and getting married as likely
as hearing ventolin on the radio

Flim
hmm Windowlicker messess with the sensibilities of the
meanstream fans...it's the perfect virus..it draws em in
with the familiar r'n'b elements and then lands them into
the middle of the digigtal freakout...nothing's more
disturbing than seeing something familiar with deform and
mutate...I think the video works on the same principle

Now that I think about it, the first mix on 2 remixes might
be a little poppy, as in I could see it getting more radio
play

well polynomial c is pretty mainstream for the time with the
standard hardcore break and the 2 layered melody: by far the
most conventional although lots of "i care" is pretty
mainstreamy, with simple rythem and melody. bummy also uses
a very conventional sound in a slightly mental way

jingle

Nothing he does is really mainstream, but i guess come to
daddy pappy mix is the most..."accessible". Like my friend
who is into all this metal and stuff loves it, and he never
listens to techno. Windowlicker is kind of like that i
guess, and maybe On.
