What began as a manly thread about a manly movievery quickly
turned into the "gay exchange" corner.

yes, if only you could have restrained yourself from posting
instead of dumping your gayity everywhere.

Doom scores pretty high on my most redundant
blockbusters-list ever.

Thank god for "Aliens".

AAAAAH! that is the GAYEST MOTHERFUCKING SOUND EFFECT EVER.
Everytime I hear that retarded overused fucking scream (it's
in 85% of all action movies, ever) a little part of me
dies.

Oh and I like how Doom is suddenly about the human genome
project and NOT ABOUT HELL/SATAN.

hey good job assholes, way to take a possible film milestone
for satan worshippers everywhere and turn it into THIS
trough of DOGSHIT.

it's quite surprising, seeing as you'd think Doom would be
perfect for an empty Hollywood blockbuster - the characters
in the game are practically made out of cardboard and there
is hardly any story to speak of.

and now just making it more complicated for themselves!

mmm it says 'all hell breaks loose' but alas it looks
extremely crap. we should just have one nameless guy,
running around killing amazing big scary things with huge
guns and lots of scary satan stuff whooshing round.

resident evil, now this (im not going into tomb raider or
fucking street fighter or anyhting like that) i HOPE to god
that they dont screw up silent hill. because that was the
scariest game. and THAT would make me cry.

mildly related and a nice read is this article on
somethingawful.com about what the screenwriters of "Alone in
the dark" experienced when they worked with director Uwe
Boll, who seems to specialise in making very shitty game
adaptations.

the scene starting with the mouse - so predictable. i bet
this sells loads of tickets.

oh jesus.

"The second clip is the one that got the most reaction;
part of the first person shooter sequence featuring
Urban’s character. Yes, the movie will at one point have a
viewpoint just like the game, right down to the weapons
loading animation. The sequence was, by the producer’s own
admission, still incomplete in terms of visual effects and
other elements but watching the clip feels like you are
watching the game in action, from surprise monster
appearance in corridors to shooting parts of the environment
to fry the creatures."

at the moment my mate is telling me how doom is good,
because it plays with genre conventions, and is therefore
self-aware.

it can be self-aware, that doesn't mean it's good.

and I certainly didn't see any of that in the
trailer, it looked very generic to me, so that wouldn't make
this supposed self-awareness a big sellingpoint.

that's what i said, and his reply was "different strokes
:)"

he mentioned that the director of Doom also directed
"Twins", and how twins used the established careers of the
actors to benefit the film. "films about films" was another
thing he said, using film history (conventions, etc) to
influence the audience's reaction to what's on the screen.

this sounded very much like my music tech study of film
scores, but still i am not swayed.

Yeah that would suck if they messed up Silent Hill. Doom is
generic cheese and could only ever possibly result in
generic cheese, but Silent Hill 2... man that's some
wonderful stuff... the guy that did Killing Zoe is writing
or directing it or something. I don't know what to think.

They're definitely going to mess up Silent Hill. They
already did by making a movie based on it.

um, but "twins" is pretty shit.

all films use film conventions to influence audience
reactions. and you could easily see the referencing of other
films as lazy writing, working as a crutch to support a
generic storyline.

and the fact is that that trailer makes it look like a
completely generic Hollywood sci-fi blockbuster.

Haha, probably true. Silent Hill 1-3 were better and more
haunting than any horror movie for me. It's all downhill
from there.
