I've begun to buy some vinyles of music that can't be found
on CD and I'm gonna have a turntable very soon. I guess that
CD keep good quality after repeated listening and several
years if you take normal care of them ; but I wonder how is
the quality of the vinyles after some listenings : is the
quality decreasing ?

yes, it decreases, but if you set your cartridge as light as
possible (you won't be able to scratch at such a setting,
and also remember that the anti-skate should be at the same
setting as your weight), there won't be much wear'n'tear.

also store the vinyls properly.

No, it´s not something you can hear after a few
listenings... I find the process of playing vinyls and
remove dust and stuff boring and tedious so I make wavs
(aiff) of my 12"´s as soon as possible after purchase!

If you're just listening rather than DJing (or worse,
scratching) and use a decent 'table and stylus, with a light
weight it's nothing to worry about. I know people who've had
albums they've listened to for 20 years that're still fine
(only slightly deteriorated).

Hell, I've got scratch samples I've scratched literally
thousands of times and they're only slightly worse than they
were originally and they're still definately what you'd
class as
"listenable".

making a digital copy of a vinyl seems to defeat the point
of them, for me.

I like the music on them, their size, crackles and
vulnerability is something I could live without
("the analogue warmth" and stuff like that is something I
leave to the audiophiles...)
