[Classic] Sega Games

the thread on re5 caused me to reminisce on the first
consoles I ever owned which were of course the original Sega
Megadrive and Sega Megadrive II

Everyone here must have owned one or at the very least had a
sibling who had one. What stunning machine they were,
naturally they lacked the amazing graphics of modern
consoles but the games were so memorable and fun to play.

How can you forget the classics :

Goldenaxe
Streets of Rage
Revenge of Shinobi
Sonic
The Lion King
World Cup Italia '90

ah...happy times :)

streets of rage 3 is still worth loads, you see it selling
for about £40 on ebay.

I only had the first one, it was such a great game.
Wandering around picking up steel pipes and beating up punks
:)

and if you pressed the [A] button everyone would freeze and
the feds would come to back you up with a long distance shot
from a bazooka mounted on a police car, ludicrous! haha

Megadrive, man that's gay. Genesis 4 life!

Great system, I remember when I was like 10 all the cool
kids in the schoolyard were all about Sega because they
allowed blood in their games, Nintendo was considered
''kiddie''. The more things change, the more they stay the
same.

ABACABB.

Streets of Rage was great, part 3 had a visionary
soundtrack, it's like IDM or something. My all-time favorite
Genesis games was Thunder Force 4/Lightening (sic) Force,
still the best shooter ever with the best soundtrack, and
NHL '94.

I'd say that "Goldenaxe" and "Sonic" are just amazing. I all
so liked "Street of Rage"

I remember The Lion King. It was really fun back in the day,
especially level 6...It goot too hard for me once you grow
into adulthood, however!

Goldenaxe was IMHO one of the grestest games ever made, so
simple yet so fascinatingly fun to play and the music and
everything was so good.

I loved the special magic, especially the dwarf/woman (I
forget which) being able to call down a huge fire-breathing
Dragon that took up the whole screen for a split second if
you collected enough magic pots.

I never completed It though, the last boss was so good and
of course back in those days it was impossible to
save games-meh kids nowdays take it for granted. I
did complete Streets of Rage though :)

I played Ariel the Little Mermaid a while ago with my
friend's Sega :) It was tough. She kept dying.

oh yeah!! wow that was so great haha he didnt look anything
like Mickey Mouse though, more like a little baby. Aww its
all coming back to me now, the storyline at the beginng was
so cute when they're in love and suddenly the evil witch
grabs minnie lol.

There was another Mickey Mouse game that was better but I
can't remember for the life of me what it was, and also
there was Donald Duck's Quack Attack which was a
great game hehe collect the chilli peppers till her cracked
and went psycho.

vcxz : Ariel was not a good game from what I
remember. When sega games were good they were awesome but
when they were bad...

Revenge of Shinobi was a good ninja game, incredibly
hard though. I don't think got above level 2 even..

Then again I was only about 10 at the time

this is not about points my katharsical friend, it is about
remembering fondly the past and what was...a time when I was
still in primary school and didn't even know what a clitoris
was...a time when beckoning Universities seemed decades off
and a time when I thought al-qaeda was a flavour of Um-Bungo
juice drink.

ah, it's good to remember the past.

3 to go...

Mega Drive was the bomb. Ecco the dolphin always transfixed
me, it was the gaming equivalent of Eno, as a kid, it seemed
so lonely and the soundtrack so eerie. I don't want to play
the rom now because I want to keep that childhood
ignorance.

I occasionally pull it out though and bash out a bit of
sonic... 3 was perhaps my favourite, or 2... Oh the funnest
multiplayer was Micro Machines, that rocked hard as
fuck
.

hahaha cyborg justice was great! i used to love sawing
robots and watching the nuts and bolts fly ;)

I will always love the soundtrack to Sonic 1, btw.

I remember when I went to Toys R Us on my birthday to get a
new game console, I wanted SNES because my friends had it,
but I ended up getting genesis because for the same price as
SNES with no games, sega had sonic. I don't regret getting
sega though. :)

Genesis is tied with ps2 as my most frequently played
console. Hands down, super street fighter 2 gets the most
playtime; unhealthy ammounts of playtime. In fact, I wonder
if I have clocked more hours in on this game than anyone
else on earth. Seriously. 2nd most played game is road rash
2.. a fantastic game just as non-linear as super street
fighter. I must have the 6 button controller when playing
super street fighter.

rocket knight adventures is a rarely mentioned game I think
deserves attention. It's kind of a bite sized cute game but
very simply good imo. I think streets of rage is over rated.
tmnt 3 turtles in time is somewhat similar. splatter house 3
is a rare game that sells for a lot on ebay still.. it's
pretty good but not THAT good. toejam and earl 1 is really a
humorous piece of art but takes a long time to try and beat
in one session (and can be frustrating and can eventually
get boring. the humor and music are ace though). kid
chameleon is fantastic. I remembered liking phantasy star
games but bought #2 recently and the pace is quite slow and
it's much simpler than I remembered, though still nice. My
favorite role playing game was shining force (maybe not
genesis). I think it was on dreamcast's smash pack or
something. sonics were fun at first but now I can't enjoy
them nearly as much. Sonic spinball is very fun and pretty
much the PERFECT difficulty level for me. Also put sonic1 in
the sonic/knuckles cart and put in whatever code for a
fantastic puzzle game of seemingly infinite length (the blue
sphere collecting games that get very difficult). toejam and
earl 2 has very very good music; the game is pretty good but
I couldn't get into it much. I liked golden axe 2 much
better than 1. general chaos sells expensive and I can't
figure out why (rare I guess); that game is total shit (as
well as pirates of the carribean).

Yeah, I played that game. It was unique but I also felt it
was frustrating and I never finished it. The most similar
game to it (I think it's better too) is "out of this world";
very unique artistic game but also gets frustrating
eventually.
