hi so i ordered a computer and apparantly the club3d ati radeon 9600xt 256mb is nondeliverable for 2 weeks the computerstore salesman recommended getting the asus radeon 9600xt with 128mb should i do this or take one of these options: club3d geforce 6600 256 mb for 10 bucks more club3d ati radeon 9550 256 mb for almost half the price of the 9600 (and therefor a reasonable price imo but i want to play doom4 someday maybe, further compu specs: pentiumIV 3gig) or: club3d ati radeon 9600 256 mb (that is without xt) find the outofstock card somewhere else because the 256 mb will be so important bye |

I think you should get a graphics card for the games you want to play now - game graphics go in such ridiculous leaps and bounds that it probably doesn't pay to anticipate them. |

if you are going with the 9600 chipset, get 256mb or it will be obsolete in a month (if it's not already). doom4? I think you probably mean doom3, but even then you're going to need more than a 9600 to properly play doom3. (by properly, I mean, graphics settings up high at high resolution). |

I've owned an old geforce 2 mx card (64mb), and that card was good when back when 64mb was all you needed... but my roomate has one of the newer geforce 3 cards that was the same generation as my radeon 9500 (which I was using up until I bought an x800 recently), and my card always had slightly better framerates, and his had problems displaying textures in certain games. I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, but I prefer ATI. |

actually, overclockability of card typically is dependent on either the memory quality, or the board design the particular manafacturer has chosen to use, rather than the actual chipset itself. both nvidia and ati are good cards. i tend to stick to nvidia for several reasons, but it really doesn't matter to be honest; the price/performance points of each brand typically are around the same. it's not a big deal. also, video memory typically only affects the detail of textures, rather than the speed of the card. i've got a 128mb card; that's fine for me right now, and most games don't really take advantage of 256mb at this point (and if they do, the extra quality is very marginal). |

Temporary sabatical from website ended to submit this link: I have this card. Bought it about 8 months ago, can play doom3 at high quality with no lag or problems, can play halflife 2 without any problems whatsoever and without having to reduce any of the water or shadow effects or nothing. Its not top of the line, but its more than adequite. I can run two monitors off of it, and its perfect. |
